Occasionally I spill gas on my cloths, polishing rags, etc. Even after 2 or 3 washings I can still smell it. Are there any tricks to ridding myself of these odors?

There's a laundry product called Disol-Vol that's made to cut oil and grease. It might work on gasoline. I've never seen it in stores but it's available in some vending machines at laundromats.

Try adding white vinegar to the wash. It is cheap at the club warehouses. I know it will take the smell off your hands, not sure about laundry.

That's the only laundry rinse I use - none of the commercial junk that creates goo in the washer.

To the above "fragrance" - lots of people used to run that stuff, especially the Jr Dragsters and the people running Methanol. That was, until they got into issues with it gumming things up in the fuel system. It's pretty much gone from the track cars now. Use with caution.

Hang them on the washing line in sunlight if you can. I often spill petrol down my sleeves changing fuel filters. Air and sunlight does the trick.

This actually woks. I do the same with gas soaked rags to avoid having them in the shop.

Spill diesel fuel in the same spot! The gasoline odor will go away!
Actually I use whatever detergent she has on the shelf. I know at least one is a Non-scented and the other has a Color safe bleach.

Here's a recipe for a "fabric softener" that will remove odors from clothes. It doesn't soften as well as a store bought fabric softener and it doesn't reduce static electricity as well either but I use it because it does an outstanding job of removing odors from clothes including fragrances contained in laundry products. You'll need at least a 3 gallon bucket for mixing due to the initial reaction of the vinegar and baking soda.

Fabric Softener:

1 cup baking soda
8 cups water
6 cups white vinegar

Add baking soda to bucket. Pour in water and mix until baking soda is dissolved. Add vinegar (slowly) one cup at a time while stirring. Once it stops foaming, let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Stir again, and put in a one gallon jug. Add one cup to laundry rinse water or use to fill an automatic fabric softener dispenser.
