Gate opener wiring

I've got a short in the wiring of my EliteRobo Swing R900 that is causing my gate to open spontaneously

I plan to rewire all of the optical sensors, which is where I think the problem is, because removing the relay that controls them resolves the spontaneous opening

The manual does not specify wire type/size/etc, but it does state that connecting two gate openers requires the wire seen in the attachment, and I have read elsewhere that photosensors should be wired with a shielded cable to prevent electrical interference

All cables will be in PVC conduit underground

What is the best cable for this project?

You pick the gauge since you didn’t state the length of the run. But single twisted pair/shielded but get type OSP(outside plant) or you may find it as direct burial too.

If they installed something that was not rated for a wet location it can become water saturated and cause an issue.

Yeah. That's prob what happened

Got a suggestion in terms of product? Home Depot had either direct burial or shielded but not both

BTW, before you just going spending that much coin, you should test the existing cable. Isolate both ends and test for continuity between the pair and if it was shielded or had a drain wire, between both conductors and those individually. I will point out that the proper method is to use a megaohm meter set to 100V, but I sure don't expect you have one in your back pocket. However if you got a sparky buddy you might ask him.
