gate openers

Installing two new gates I fabbed. Anybody familiar with US Automatic, Ghost Controls, E8, or Mighty Mule? I am leaning towards Ghost Controls. Any opinions?

These are 1 1/2" square tube gates 12' long and about 250-300 lbs each so the actuator type gate opener should be fine.

Are they hinged or sliders. For hinged the mule system works but is not a high end set up. Check the specs I believe they are rated by the weight of the gate. Also be certain they are dead nuts flat level in open or closed. Learned that from experience. The hard way. Good luck

Chain Driven sliders work fine and last a long time, if the gate is not restricted from moving, for example bound by Ice, Snow or mud.

We have a chain drive slider by Door King. This is a small gated neighborhood. The gate has been working for 20 years or so. Occasionally the control board gets fried by lightening, usually coming in on the phone line. Better grounding would help, or just get rid of the phone line like we did. Everyone has a cell phone now anyway.
