Gate wheel- long travel

I’m looking for a farm gate wheel that has about 5-6“ of travel.. My ground is that uneven.
The only ones I can seem to find travel anywhere between 1-2”

Anyone have any leads?

You may have to get creative, perhaps mounting your gate wheel on a leaf spring.

I dealt with a very uneven driveway by milling a 1.25" long slot in a piece of 1.5" x 5/16" bar for a top hinge for the 10' wide gate; the wheel was fixed and the gate happily followed the uneven driveway. Since the hinges were about 2' apart and the gate was 10' long, we had lots of travel available. This also helped keep the loads on the gate post reasonable when our young kids hung off the gate.

I would put the up / down motion in the hinge. Take a piece of pipe 3 feet long, 1 inch OD. Take 5 pieces of larger pipe that will allow the 1" to have motion, nothing tight here, have a 1/16th or 1/8th of clearance. It will be outside inthe weather and with lots of clearance it will not need lube. Weld a tab to the 3 with holes to allow screwing to the (assumed ) wood post. Spaced out at each end and middle of the 3 foot "pin". Weld the other 2 to the gate (assumed to be metal), spaced in between the other 3. Weld a stop on the top of the pin so it does not pass on through but is allowed to rotate has needed. Put a fixed wheel near the middle of the gate, so the wheel takes most all the gate weight so the gate is not hanging on the hinge at any point in it's swing.

Fix the ground or put in a serious post that can handle the cantilever.

For the wheel to work you need the spring to be loaded, to get meaningful and balanced load over 5-6" of travel is going to take a spring with free length that is probably 3-4 feet tall.
