Gatorgrip Socket, any good?

I've been considering getting that gatorgrip socket to deal w/ oddball stuff, like square head or wing nut.

Does it function the way it's advertised, or is it pretty much worthless?

Anyone have experience w/ it? cause it seems I could pick it up for 12 or 13 bucks, so it's not too sore on the wallet.

i have one i bought it abought a year ago and it hasnt got used since i opend the packege i always grap for a socket it does work just not so great that i grap it when ever i need to remove a bolt it is like using vise-grips to remove a nut it works but it's a pain in the a$$

Total waste of money....it doesnt do the job....the little pins will still slide back no matter what size you need...good chance it can round the bolt or nut....in order for a nut or bolt to really turn...it needs a solid surface to turn with...like a socket....waste of money

Its got its place...

Kind of like for the weekender who cant justify investing in a set of tools (the same guy who thinks and ponders which way to turn the wrench lol). I dont own one, but this is another one that I have gotten to play with a little bit. The one thing Id be concerned about, is what dink said... not getting a tight fit on the bolt and rounding it out. Definetly cant be used for high torque.

On the plus side, it is a US made tool, or at least it was last time I checked, but its probably not intended for doing anything too serious

I would never use a Gatorgrip on a traditional hex bolt. I always kinda though one might be useful for putting up small hooks (like for house plants) or other oddly-shaped low-torque fasteners. Never wanted one bad enough to try one though.
