G'day from melbourne, australia

Hi everyone,

Mine is a familiar story - long time reader, first time poster.

I am a happily retired fella in my early 60's living with my partner in suburban Melbourne, Australia's second largest city (for the moment, we're predicted to overtake Sydney in population in the next 10-15 years I think).

We have five adult daughters, a few sons-in-law, and three grandchildren aged from two to five.

The other important thing in my life is my 1966 Mustang. This is a continuous improvement project that will never be finished. My other interests are most things automotive but particularly drag racing (as a spectator and crew member), music, both listening and playing, and travel.

Most of my time is taken up at the moment with a new house and garage project about which I have started my first thread here:

Sorry I only just found your post on my introductory thread. Thanks so much for the welcome.

Glad you like my car. The first ones - '64 to '66 - are my strong preference as these are the cars that started a whole automotive genre. There is a bit more information and photos of my car on my house/garage thread here

There are probably more Mustangs in Australia than any other US car. The Mustang Owners Club has more than 1,000 members in the state of Victoria where I live, I'm not sure how many nationally.

That's not bad for a car that mostly has not been sold here. In '65 Ford Australia brought in a couple of hundred and had them converted to right hand drive and sold them through their dealer network. Then in 2001 Ford brought in 250 Cobras and had them converted and sold through dealers. Then since 2016 the current models have been produced in your country in RHD and can be ordered through Ford dealers here. This last development has added to club membership but the vast majority of the cars in the club are first gen Mustangs - '64 to '70.

If you look at the pics on my house/garage thread you'll see mine is still LHD. If a car is over 30 years old we don't have to convert them. Some do but I think leaving them left hook as we say is part of what makes them special here.
