Evenin' everyone,

My name is Brenden, and I specialise in extravagant and complex usernames...

I'm Australian, live about an hour north of Sydney and just shy of 2 years ago now my now fiancé and I bought our first house.

The plan when we bought the house was to build a garage straight away, we'd worked out with the bank that we could afford to borrow a bit more to build a man-cave for me. Being the cynical ******* that I am I decided after we'd finished fixing up the house a little that I didn't want to give the bank any more money than I absolutely had to, and that I would sell the money pit Subaru I had and use that to finance the build.

So just over a year ago I sold the subaru and put the money in the bank, and went searching for garage quotes. Then work got all sorts of slow and I decided (much to the fiancé's annoyance) that I should leave the money in the bank just in case I found myself without a job. Somewhere in the middle there I reached my deadline for proposing (short but probably not very interesting to you guys story) and had to spend part of the garage budget on a shiny bit of metal with some see through rocks on it.
Anyway, here we are 2 years after we bought the house and I've finally decided work can go shove it and I'm building my goddamn garage anyway. To hell with the economy!!!

So I drew up all my council plans and what not (my hatred for my local council is another matter entirely and I'm afraid I may drain your bandwidth/break your language filter explaining it), paid their extortionate fee (highway robbery!) submitted them and waited patiently for them to say thankyou for doing their job for them and making sure everything complies. It took 3 weeks for that to happen, which was surprising fast for how useless they are.

So now I have council approval for my shed. After our engagement party in November the Jacaranda tree can be cut down and the stump ground out and the slab can be excavated. Then maybe, hopefully, in December the slab can go down and everything else can be built in January.

The shed will be a colorbond job, 8.5m wide x 7.5m deep x 3.2m high (63.75 sqm), or 27.9 x 24.6 x 10.5 in feet (686.2 square feet). So it's a decent sized 2 car + drinking area sized shed.

I also have a secret weapon in the fight against house junk taking up space in the shed, a second shed!!!!! There is already an older single car (it'd fit a hatchback and not much else) garage on the property that will be moved down next to my shiny new shed and be used solely for house and garden storage. WIN!

As yet I have not made any decisions about wall linings yet, other than I think I'd like some, probably MDF or plywood or something so I can drill into it to hang stuff. And I'm going to give building a workbench a go. I have an old bicycle to restore for the fiancé, plus a 50's Crosley Shelvador fridge to restore for me, plus I just picked up a 50's Silent Knight fridge to repaint.
All these little odd jobs are to distract myself from not having a custom car project to park in there, yet.

So yeah, bit long winded but now I've made an intro, mine isn't going to be as intricate as some of the fancy sheds on here, but hopefully it might provide some entertainment in the build, considering how "special" my mates and I that will be building it...

I'll find some pics later and post em up to show where everything will be going...

Cheers guys,
Brenden.

Cheers for the welcome!

I'm in Gosford right now at work... I live in Blackwall, which is in between Woy Woy and Umina on the central coast, about 15-20 minutes south of Gosford depending on the traffic.

And now for photos, two at least.

This is my house when we first bought it. And after looking at that photo I've just realised the tree on the left has grown about half a metre, lol.

All that but ugly mission brown is gone now, it's now a slate/blueish colour which looks much nicer. Plus the gardens look nicer, and that yellow wall is a much nicer light blue...

Right, now, my very highly developed MSpaint skills will now show where the shed is going. The big shed will go on the left of shot, roughly where the red rectangle is, and the smaller storage shed will be going right of shot, tucked as close to the fence as I can get it.

Those are the only two photos I have here at work, I'll find some better ones when I get home...

This is my current storage shed, which is about 90% full of house junk, my garage lounge and a big *** metal cabinet.

And the little fella is my excavator (the hole next to him is his sunbed...lol) and site manager, McGyver...
