I have a colleague at work that asked me to look at his panel (well, pictures of it anyway) because he wanted to add a hot tub.
Looking at the pictures (which I don't have) the panel is a GE split buss from the late 60s (house was built in 1967).
The panel is fed directly from the meter (about 6' away) with 4/0 XHHW-2. There is no disconnect at all between the meter and the panel. I am aware of the "6 throw rule", is that still acceptable?
I told him he should probably have it replaced either way as the panel is pretty well maxed out, space-wise. Also, his only ground is to the water main on the other side of the house, which could be fixed separately, but I would just fix everything...
This is more for curiosity, as I have not run into a split buss panel before.
