I have heard of PEC before and I have seen a couple winch-hoists that look similar to yours, but they are not common by any means. I think PEC stands for Process Engineering Corporation if I remember correctly. That's about all I know, I hope it helps.

Here are 3 Ebay links I found for listings with your brand of hoist. The last one shows a sticker that says "Process Eng. Corp. Crystal Lake, Illinois". It appears from the other Ebay listings that my memory might have been off related to the name. I was thinking PEC was Process Engineering Corp. but the other Ebay listings all show Process Engine Corp.

There's a Process Engineering Corporation in Crystal Lake, Ill., so I'm guessing the ebay listings with engine are wrong. Not to mention Process Engine Corp. doesn't make sense.

Hello Kevin !
I have acquired a PEC PROCESS ENG. CORP. MODEL NUMBER H-4001 that looks very similar to the one you have pictured. The paper type sticker has fallen off over the and I placed it somewhere to keep it safe. Now if I can just remember that safe place I might be able to shed a bit more light for you. Just today I had to figure out how to disassemble the unit to reinstall the cable that let go inside the spool. There is a small set screw in the end of the center shaft that goes thru the gear and housing and is on the opposite end of the gear driven end. Remove this set screw and in the set screw hole is a small pin. The set screw when turned clockwise pushes down on this pin which in turn pinched the cable to hold the cable in place. On the opposite end of the center axis shaft to remove the shaft from that end you must remove the outside snap ring then remove the square key that holds the gear and axis shaft in place thru the housing. Or remove the outside snap ring from the other end of the axis shaft to remove from that side of the housing. Quite a unique setup actually. Never saw this kind of setup before today !!! Well I hope that helped a little bit in case you have to replace or cut off any bad or frayed cable ends like I had to today. It was a learning curve !!!
Happy New Year ,
Scott
