Does anyone have any suggestions for a good pump for changing gear/diff oil?

I am considering the Motive products unit. I have their brake bleeder and it works well.

We have one at the shop don't know who makes it but it screws onto the bottle and has a pump like bathroom soap take it and put a hose on it to go into the diff and it works perfect I dunno if it's a tool or somethin someone rigged out of an old gojo bottle pump but it's by far the fastest and easiest one I've ever used

I have the exact same thing. There are no markings on it to indicate who made it. I got it at a yard sale for a buck and it has paid for itself many times over!

Jack, is there a specific brand of drill pump you use? The ones I see on amazon don't seem to get stellar reviews. Thanks!

i have a similar one that I bought at the local Auto parts store. I believe it was sold with a bottle of Valvoline gear lube. The Valvoline is long gone, the the pump is still in my garage being used. It works just fine and has for the last 20 years.

I have 2-3 of those "soap dispenser" style hand pumps made for trans and diff fluid. They work but it takes a lot of pumping to fill a trans or diff. Also tend to make a mess while doing it.

I made my own "motive" style out of a garden sprayer. Fill it with whatever fluid, pump, and open the valve. I've made a few different ends from some soft copper tubing from the plumbing section of lowes.

Mine is the $5 Flotec (or Parts-2-O) model that gets such lousy reviews on Amazon. I've used it for four or five years now. It's always worked with the thick gear oil I use in my old 911. It's self-priming, even. I only use it for the one car's gear oil change so I can get out of cleaning it.

My only issue has been my own tendency to knock the supply bottle down when I move around under the car. So now I clamp the pump part to a piece fo the suspension so it doesn't move.

Good to know! I guess for 5 bucks I will give it a try. Thanks!
