The gear has gone out in our Genie chain drive openner. I ordered a new gear on e bay and it is on the way. There is no type of instructions or breakdown of how the gear is mounted in the owners manual.
Has anyone replaced the drive gear in one of these? How hard of a job is this? Any shortcuts? I am writing this from work and do not have the model in front of me.
Thanks
Mike

Yes, but it was a long time ago, so bear with me....

I remember it was actually pretty easy, just a set screw IIRC. But if you're talking about the large plastic drive gear, I found the reason it failed was the bracket that adjusted the chain (?) had weakened and was dragging on the gear, that's what actually ruined it. Mine took a bit of welding to fix and it was good as new after I replaced the gear.

Just saying, take a look at what caused the gear to fail.....

Edit: I found a pic of the bracket that was hitting the gear....

and a small pic of the gear I had to replace....

This is a very simple job. I did mine a couple years ago in about 15 minutes. You shouldn't have any problems.

It replacement will come with instructions.
It is a screwdriver and channel lock job easily done on a step ladder.
