you guys think they would be ok for flare nut wrenches? I need a set of SAE and MM, but can't afford SO or matco. Was thinking about SK or gearwrench

Cornwell makes an outstanding set of flare nut wrenches. Picked up cheap on ebay

I have lots of the ratcheting wrenches and they have been used professionaly for 6 years. Been awesome. I recently bought a 1\4 drive soft handled flex head ratchet to try them out and the next day ordered the 3\8 and 1\2 flex heads. They are as good as snap on or Matco IMO. My new brand for sure.....and the price is what I like.

They pretty much are Matco, they are owned by the same company and share their design & MFGing. You can buy an 88T Matco rebuild to upgrade your GW ratchets.

Not to beat a dead horse but I wanted to share this experience with gear wrench a while back but I couldn't find my broken Craftsman until today. These 3/8" wrenches were used to break free the rod bolts on my 125hp 2 stroke outboard motor. As you can see the Craftsman -v- failed miserably and never broke the bolt loose. So I threw on the Gear Wrench ratcheting wrench. I was very reluctant to use the ratchet on it after what happened to the Craftsman, but it was a 12 pt bolt, and I didn't have a 12pt 3/8 socket at the time. I will admit, a 16" cheater bar had to be used to get the bolt to finally break loose, and it did bend the wrench slightly, but it held up and the ratchet still works great.

I have a question. I have several GearWrench ratchets and some are marked as follows.

J
K
L

I've read that the L means Made in China.. What do the J & K stand for?

I don't know that the L specifically means China across all of the GearWrench product line, but it does appear to be a series/revision code (i.e. series A-K came before L).

I had some more stuff to get at advance this past weekend so used it as another excuse for some more gearwrench stuff. Picked up a 10pc set of metric 3/8" drive swivel sockets. Also got a 4pc set of 3/8" wobble extensions. I haven't used either of them but the finish and quality look very good for the price. Guess time will tell how they hold up but for the money I'm very impressed. Made two seperate orders at advance using discount codes and got 107 bucks of stuff for 67 bucks. There's a few more gearwrench items I would like to get from advance, just add a tool everytime I place an order. Wish advance had more selection of gearwrench tools.

I can't speak for their ratchets but if they are built with the same qualityand engineering as the wrenches (see my post #45) I'd say so. I estimate it took 150lbs+ to break the bolt free that bent the 3/8" wrench. The ratchet mechanism still works like new, and that was WAY more than that little guy was ever designed for.

I use my ratcheting reversible wrenches quite often. Although I'm a home guy I've never had an issue with them. They seem to be strong and dependable, plus the price is right.

The flex heads are great as well. Both sets made in Taiwain.

I have 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/8 stubby ratchets. The 1/4 has been mostly for appliance repair, the 3/8 is a back up to my Matco 88 and the 1/2 was a beast changing tie rods and struts.

I would offer a word of caution on their pliers. There are better alternatives out there. The long nose ones are flimsy at best. Sockets seem OK, I used a 36mm for my axle nut and it worked fine.

Overall, they are a good deal for the price. I have a full set of Taiwain made ratcheting wrenches in Metric for sale (non reversible). I will post them in the classified.
