Has anyone seen/used both first hand

The F has 2 3/8 ratchets (one of them is a stubby) and i believe both of them are 84t.

THe P only has 1 rachet but is the 120xp set with 120t.
The P aslo has the case with the yellow latches and the F appears to be all black, perhaps an older model?

both can be ordered for about 108 bucks and you get a the 1/4 inch set free.

The F

The P
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009PJPH28/?tag=atomicindus08-20

both/either can be had here Tooldiscounter.com for roughly the same price plus free shipping.

I have both sets, bought them as a promo from Coastal Tool Supply for roughly $114 shipped. Mine are COO Taiwan, but YMMV.

I've been very happy with mine, and for the money, you should be with yours. Great quality sockets.

I prefer the 84t design. Less back drag and the head is lower profile.

i don't have the sets but i do have the ratchets, the single pawl 60/84/88 versions are a touch smoother and smaller. nothing wrong with the 120 but i prefer the others. the stubby ratchet would tip me to those.

Thanks for the replies. I am thinking the 84t is probably plenty. I can always go get a 120xp ratchet in 3/8 and 1/4 in the future if i felt the desire for more teeth and less swing. That way id get the stubby. Ive already got sk rachets in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 and craftsman.......and pittburgh pro composites in 3/8 and 1/4. This GW set will stay in the truck with me for when i am moblie.

At some point is probably over thinking it. Either set is probably fine. I have got the tool bug as of late. I started replacing missing craftsman sockets i had and then started looking deeper to find out the new ones are garbage.......next thing you know......im buy sets, and wreches and etc etc etc. Slippery slope.

In two cases I went with the 80550F. The first time I did because the 80550P was out of stock. Once I got it I was happy with the 84T ratchets and having a stubby ratchet has been nice. The second time I got the same set since I like getting the two 84T ratchets over a single 120xp and it means I only have to stock one repair kit since I have a handful of 84T ratchets now.

I have the set with yellow latches and got the 1/4" set with it also. Much nicer than my craftsman sets. I am just a homeowner who loves to tinker on things.

The two sets I got as a promo were the 80550F and the 80300PT.

The 80550F came with the 84T ratchets, and honestly, they are about as fine tooth as I would want in a 3/8' ratchet.

I like the 80300PT as is came with the 1/4" 120XP ratchet, and while I've used it only a few times, I haven't found a need for something with that small of a swing arc. I'm sure I'll run into a situation where I would really need it eventually, but it seems more of a gimmick/selling point than anything.

I say go with the 80550F, you will be happy with that set.

I vote P! You get a better selection of 3/8 socket sizes which are commonly used. 1/4 sets are constantly on sale in various brands. IMHO 1/4 could be just about any decent quality brand and still be effective based on the lower torque values of smaller fasteners.

3/8 is the bread and butter of most ratchet work on cars and other things. You want the most complete high quality set in that size. That F set leaves a lot out and you will end up buying more complete sets to fill gaps and in the end probably spend more.

A very complete set of 1/4 Gearwrench is $59 on amazon. Add it to the P set later and you will be happier in the long run.

i bought the f with the 1/4 set included and i really like the set. my coo was taiwan also. my complaint is that i mainly used the 3/8 and a few months later i discovered the 1/4 set had 2 10mm short sockets instead of a 11mm socket and 1 of them was unstamped completely. apex wanted me to send it in on my dime and then they would decide on if they wanted to warranty it or not, so instead i just went to lowes and bought a 11mm short instead of sending it in. i would still recommend the set as its held up just fine. it also kinda ***** the blow molded case is too big for most portable tool boxes and it has no handle. and i haven't had a situation where i wish i had the 120 tooth ratchet, although i dont really use the stubby to much either. i would buy the f set if it was my choice between the 2, for just an extra $10 for shipping you get a pretty complete 1/4 set.

f has 1/4 - 1 shallow and 1/4 - 7/8 deep, Metric from 6 - 19 shallow and deep.

p is the same. It it may have the 1 inch deep but neither set skips sizes.

I bought the GearWrench 80718 63 pc 6 point 3/8" Drive Socket Set from www.tooldiscounter.com ...

1/4" thru 1" shallow and deep, 6mm thru 22mm shallow and deep with 24mm deep, and both sparkplug sockets...

Paid...$ 97.00 for it three years ago...

The set has been replaced with #80719 which has 76 sockets...Includes medium depth sockets...

It can be had for around $ 120.00...

These two sets are sockets only, but they have larger size runs than the all inclusive sets...You'll still need to buy ratchets and extensions, but you get a broader range of sockets...

I buy sets, because I'm old and set in my ways...
