olds88, I thought you primarily used Snap-On ratchets; are you going to buy SK ratchets and use them for work?
Nope, it's for my home set... I already have an S-K 1/4 inch ratchet that stays in my car (it lives in a Craftsman plastic blow molded box with mostly the Craftsman tools that came with that box.... that set saved my *** on the road a few times!), but sometimes I leave my car at work, such as this weekend, and I could have used a 1/4 ratchet at home this weekend. IDK what happened to the one we had here, I guess my Dad brought it to work.
S-K ratchets work great..... however, inherent in their design, they're not as convenient as Snap-on, and the Snap-on copies, to reverse direction with one finger. They seem to have solved that problem with their new "palm control" ratchets, but I've yet to see one in real life.
Also, on Snap-on, and similar ratchets, when the switch is pointing to ON or OFF, you know just by looking at it which direction it's set to, the traditional S-K ratchets, you have to test it in your hand.
