Sup guys I'm new here but have been reading stuff on here for a long time... As the title says my stubby 3/8 120xp ratchet has only 60 clicks.. so I opened it up and discovered that both pawls are identical when they should be different which gives it the 120 clicks. Both pawls say 38t on them and one should say 38b for bottom I guess.. now my question is, whats the best course of action to correct this? Should I contact tooldiscounter.com where I bought it or gearwrench directly to have it warrantied? And can I bring it to sears and have it swapped cuz I kno they sell geaewrench there. Thanks

Any store that sells them should be willing to swap it for you, online or in person. Not sure the sears near me sells the 120xp in store though.

If it was me I'd contact GW through their website, see if they will give you the pawl you need plus a full rebuild kit (just in case). I had a similar situation years back with them and they honored the request without a problem. The kit is only $10 or so anyway.

Sears don't sell the 120. If youre looking for in store swap. Contact gearwrench directly. Its simpler and easier.

They have a rep on the site. He posts on the gw hot deals thread.
But they will fix it, mail you a replacement.

The day after I say I haven't seen a problem with the 120XPs yet on this site and this gets posted. Fate hates me.

But, anyway, I would just call up gearwrench, explain the problem and ask for a rebuild kit. I doubt they can/will just send out the single pawl you need.

Ahh man sorry to rain on ur parade...but...the ratchets are beautiful and once u put some supeerube or lube of choice man its probably one of the nicest ratchets out there...and this was just a small mistake on gw's end nothing to do with the quality of the tatchet

If you can find a 120XP at an Advanced Auto they'll swap it for you. Don't bother contacting GW directly, they have a "mail it in only" warranty policy. I've contacted them in the past and they will not mail rebuild kits no matter who I've asked. If anyone knows different, please tell me how I can talk to because I have a problem one right now (84T, not 120).

They have a rep on the site. He posts on the gw hot deals thread.
Good luck getting a response out of him. I've sent him 3 PM's over the last 2 months and have never gotten a response out of him on anything.

I would suggest contacting the GW Rep that visits the forum, More than likely he has the clout to remedy the situation Personally, But what about the next guy who has problems? Why there customer service rep couldn't simply send you a Rebuild kit or the correct paw is beyond me. I just dont see the need to jump through all the hoops for such a small fix..

Good Luck..

This seems to be the big problem with Gearwrench. There's multiple post in this forum with the same story - for warranty, Gearwrench says take it to Fastenall, Fastenall says, you didn't buy it from us, no warranty from us.

Got it from tooldiscounter.com... I don't feel like going thru a month long process for a 12 dollar kit that would fix my issue honestly

Try calling again, I called Apex to warranty my wobble extension that I bought online from Advance Auto. Talked to a nice lady, mailed the broken part in and had a new one in about a week.

Advance Auto, they never question, they just walk over the the shelf and grab another one hand it to me and take the old one.

The first time I went I offered to show them the recipe and the clerk said it was not necessary.

Both of my local stores are like this.

Not sure about the stubby, but I know they have the standard 120s, but just never thought to see if they carried the stubbys.

I had to pay postage on mine, which wasn't bad for a 3" extension. Just put it in an envelope wrapped in box tape. Only cost a couple of bucks. You should be able to mail it First Class or flat rate and only pay $3-6.

I purchased the three pc. 120 ratchet set through Trident. Took almost three wks till I rec'd it. With no indication from them that shipping would be delayed, I had to call and inquire why.

2 of the 3 ratchets had problems. Notified them. "Gonna send you new ones out immediately."

Days later they ask for pics. Sent pics. Days later they said I had to talk to GW rep.

Talked to GW. They wanted them back for "warranty evaluation". They paid return postage, however they would not email the label or RMA info to me. Took a week and a half for me to receive it through the mail.

Sent it back immediately. Two weeks, and no notice or contact. Called and gave them info and tracking no, (that came on the label they provided). They couldn't find any info.
I called the shipper, and found out it was delivered to them. Notified them of this, including day and time. Still insisted that I provide them more info, as they said that I never provided them with the tracking no., which I did twice. Again, this tracking no. came from them originally.

I wrote them an earth shaking nasty email, and received no response. I then insisted they use the nos. I provided and, "oh yes, we did receive them, however they are in the process of being evaluated and no further info was possible at this time".

They never let me know anything. I called after another week went by, and "they would look into it". I received the new ones the next day.

It was quite a cluster. From the day I ordered to the day I rec'd the good ones, over three months had gone by.

I had other GW tools, and on this site most like them, so I felt good about ordering.

Baa friggin' baa....I will never purchase another one of their products!

My local Advanced Auto (I have 3 of them) don't stock 120's that I've seen (and I've looked). 2 of the 3 locations have no issues doing warranty, but the one that always has a problem doing warranty always seems to be the one that has what I need replaced. As I said above, I tried contacting GW for a rebuild and was given the same "we need to evaluate" runaround. I'd say I don't know why, but we all know why - give us a hard enough time and we'll just pay to replace it. What I don't understand is the mentality of making our lives hard over a $10-15 (retail cost) rebuild kit, while creating such horrible ill-will about the brand/product.

I'm a little miffed with them right now because they have a rep on this website, but he never answers PM's. Why even be here then?! I too hoped that he'd be able to help me with my existing warranty issue, but no responses.

Good luck OP, please post how it plays out.

I sent in a GW rat and an Armstrong Rat to APEX...literally took them knuckleheads 4 weeks to send me new ones b/c they "were out of stock"....you make ratchets!!! How in the hell are you out for 4 weeks!?! lol...goofy bunch I tell you. And quite the coincidence they were out of two different makes/models until the same day.

I agree! In this age of lifetime warranted tools, all the hassle they create just alienates customers, (me!). They also damage the integrity, and reputation of their business.

I can certainly understand their requiring a tool of any value sent back. But, I think they could show a little good will, and immediately replace it, along with the return label as circumstances warrant.

Or if they feel they are getting taken advantage a lot, at least make the return process fast and efficient. Makes for a happier customer, and actually would save them the cost of having to deal with multiple customer contacts concerning the status of the tool.

As someone once said, "Common Sense is not common".

Integrity/honestly means a lot to me. I have been known to just tell a co. not to bother contacting me anymore, regardless of my loss, within reason of course.

Three years ago I made a verbal agreement to purchase a late model used car, from a new car dealership. Made the deal and a few days later, my wife and I went to pay and pick up said car. Met with the salesman and handed him a full payment check, which he layed on his desk.

Then before signing papers, I stated that I would like to see the vehicle again first. While inspecting, I had another question. Salesman hemmed and hawwed...then finally answered me. This info, at least to me, should have been mentioned earlier. I told him that and calmly walked back into building, to his desk, and picked up my check and left. He was beside himself....

I know the owner, and like him. Of course he called me. I explained that I have a very low tolerance for BS, and misleading info. Nothing he said could make me go back and purchase the vehicle. I'm still on good terms with him.

There is no reason for anyone to be intentionally mislead or discouraged when doing a business dealing, small or large. In my experience this is 99.99% the result of greed. Unfortunately these circumstances are part of our world.
