I was in a bind and needed a 3/8 drive ratchet but was on the road and the only place within 20 miles of where I was that sells tools was Advance Auto Parts. They had a few different choices but I chose the 120XP. It was only $5 more than the standard 84t Gearwrench ratchet. Now this damn thing is a very nice smooth and strong ratchet from what I can tell in the 3 days of torture I put it through so who knows how good it will be long term. I just wish Advance sold the 1/4 drive and flex heads in these ratchets. I will probably order them on line at this point. With all the threads recently about the declining quality of the China produced Gearwrench tools I hope they dont mess these up because they have a winner here. I want to try the 120XP ratcheting wrenches too.Whats the best place online for Gearwrench 120xp stuff? I must say in the 3 days of use its my new favorite. Yes even over my dual 80s.I dont know if that will last but it has impressed me enough that I want to buy more

Not sure about the ratchets but the 120xp wrenches are made in Taiwan. Have both sets of 120xp xl wrenches and neither are China.

I thought they were all Taiwan. I just hope they dont screw these up like the stuff being made in China now. Im just glad i bought all my ratcheting wrenches years ago and not recently.

I bought mine 3pc 120xp set at www.tooldiscounter.com

At the time, it was the best price I could find. Its still one of my go-to's for tools.

I have had the set for 3 years and have had 0 issues. Its my main ratchet set in my garage.

I have 120 in 1/2 and all of the 84T flexes. Haven't killed them yet even removing lugs and head bolts when I get lazy. but I do own impacts and breaker bars too. Yeah. I actually use breaker bars.Us old guys even use a speeder once in a while on valve covers and oil pans ;) It makes us feel intelligent again as opposed to a $200 plastic ************* with a battery stuck up its ****.:D

The 120XP ratchets and ratcheting wrenches are still made in Taiwan.

I loved mine when I first got them too. With more use they just weren't as smooth as they used to be (even cleaning/lubing the mechanism didn't help them). Maybe I use them too hard :p

I bought the non-flex, 3/8 ratchet and have had no issues. It's my main ratchet but wish I had a flex instead

That 4 piece flexhead set is the way to go. I use them daily along with my Snap On ones. Between them they are the only ratchets I've used for awhile now.

I don't hold back on my GW flex head ratchets. I have the 120xp and had the older set as well (the 4 piece flex head ratchet set) and have done everything from remove wheels to head bolts, etc and have not had one break on me yet. I clean and lube once a year.

I admit I haven't checked out the 120XP's in person. I have looked at the 84T's in person. Personally I would prefer the Husky 72Ts vs the GW 84T's. A few extra teeth aside, the Husky's can be had cheaper and have a quick release. Otherwise it's a nearly identical Apex wrench for less money. Note that Cman also offers a version of the same Gearwrench mechanism.

OK, 120 vs 84. I can't say from first hand experience BUT I have used the Husky 100T and 72T. The 100T is a double pawl design based on the 120XP. The standard Husky 72T is based on the GW 84T ratchet. The 72/84T is a single pawl design with a lower profile head. If the 120 is like the 100, it has a higher back drag vs the single pawl design. Personally the extra teeth aren't worth it to me. Since I like the quick release button I would take the Husky over the GW and personally suspect I would prefer the 72T Husky over the 120XP thanks to lower back drag and a lower profile head (back drag is based on assumptions, but head thickness is not).

Picked up majority of my gearwrench stuff from northern tool and tooltopia. I've also used advanced auto and ntxtools to find promos for gearwrench stuff in the past
