The prices on the GW site are laughable. Regular street price will be half of that, and sale prices will be 1/4.

I know they are trying to make it seem like a "great deal" when you can buy the item for less than "MSRP", but IMO it devalues the product when you advertise the "MSRP" as twice what it will ever sell for. Everyone knows that "marketing" tactic, and is quick to associate it with Cheap Chinese ****. (not saying GW is Cheap Chinese ****, just that they use the same marketing technique, and I don't think it does them any good)

I agree their stated prices are ridiculous... but if you compare street price to their competition, at least on the new wrenches, it still is a "good deal". Or the competition really is obscenely overpriced, take your pick.

I bought a set of the metric 120XP flex double boxes off the Matco truck as soon as I saw 'em... I'd been wanting a set of the Matco/Kabo ones but couldn't stomach $450 on a damn set of wrenches, especially Taiwanese ones no matter how nice. The GW ones look like everything but the head is made on the same assembly line... the head is even almost identical, but the Kabo ones have the screw to pull the pawl out like Blackhawk wrenches.

Note that I wasn't referring to whether or not the GW set was a good deal - just that their marketing/pricing "gimmick" of inflating the MSRP to a price that they will never actually sell, is counter-productive.

Leave that junk to the Chinese sellers on eBay offering "Aple iPuds" for $20 when "MSRP" is $400 - OMG, what a great deal, right?

How are you liking them so far? I have a set of SAE Blackhawk and MM Proto reversible, but I'm thinking of getting a larger SAE set, and the 120XP is a strong contender. I can't say anything negative about the Blackhawk or Proto sets.

The gearwrench 120xp are actually slimmer and slightly longer than older models.

I'm not sure how much would be consider a good buy?

If you mean the 120 flex long double box, that is the best price I have seen......so tempting.....:willy_nil:bounce:

I had thought about buying a ratcheting wrenxh set but honestly are they really worth it? It seems to me most of the time I can get a ratchet in an area I also won't be able to get a ratcheting wrench in the area because of the larger clearance needed for the ratcheting head.

Of course it's worth it. I use them over any regular combination wrench.

They work good... dead nuts even with the Matco/Kabo ones far as I can tell, for less $$$ and the same warranty for me since I got them from the Matco man. We've bent a few Matco ones doing dumb (but necessary) stuff with them, so I figured it was worth the $90 or whatever to have an easy warranty and oh god they were in front of me RIGHT NOW! :lol:

I don't care for the spline since they seem to get stuck on heads easier, but they both do that.

Yes, they are. Double box vs combination. Plus there are different features.
