That is a good deal.

Although probably not as good as the photo indicates, since the sockets say Armstrong USA on them :)

GearWrench Mechanics Tool Set — 13-Pc., 3/4in. Drive, 12-Point, Model# 80879

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200675252_200675252

i bought this for my son last christmas. it is a great quality starter kit. if you decide to pull the trigger, save 10$ (either as a gift card or off the purchase) by using one of the coupons here:

https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/promotions_coupon-codes

i have bought from them before, they do alright . . . .

Thanks.

Made in Taiwan.

For those who need, think they need or just want to have 3/4 drive tools handy just in case.

Already have the 3/4 drive sockets that I need, pretty much will just be used on some rear axle nuts and every now and then a trailer hitch ball.

I already own 38" TEKTON 15359 and 19" GearWrench 81404 3/4" drive breaker bars that seldom get used, breaking a 1/2" drive breaker bar while busting loose axle nuts can be a memorable experience.

IMO it's better to have a tool and not need it than to need a tool and not have it.

The 3/4" ratchet, has to be better than the one that comes in the HF kit carbon steel set that I looked at a few years ago. https://www.harborfreight.com/20-piece-metric-3-4-quarter-inch-heavy-duty-socket-set-5494.html

I really just wanted the ratchet and extension - the box and the 11 sockets pretty much just cost me an additional $15.

$89.99 less $10 off code 254879 plus $14.99, to my zip code, shipping came to $89.98 total.

Contains the GearWrench 81400 Ratcheting Socket 3/4" Drive Teardrop Quick Release 19-3/4" sells for $66.02 plus $7.99 shipping at www.jbtoolsales.com/gearwrench-81400-ratcheting-socket-3-4-drive-teardrop-quick-release-19-3-4/

You can (not included in the Northern Tool deal) get a longer handle 36" Knurled Chrome Replacement Handle for 3/4" Drive Ratchet Heads for the ratchet, www.jbtoolsales.com/gearwrench-81403-36-knurled-handle-22mm-thick/ $48.61 plus shipping, $44.99 with free shipping from CPO Tyler tools.

Gearwrench 3/4" Drive Ratchet Repair Kit 81499 (1 KIT) $11.30 plus shipping from Cripe through www.bonanza.com/listings/Gearwrench-3-4-Drive-Ratchet-Repair-Kit-81499-1-KIT-/268490819

Seems like a great deal.

I've been using a 3/4" breaker bar, with a 3/4-to-1/2 step down adapter, using 1/2" drive sockets.

Sure would be nice to have a full 3/4 set. Price is great for this set with metal box. On the fence about it, because I don't think I would use it much.

The issue I have with this set is the limited range of sizes. In a 3/4" drive I really want something to go up to 2". The Kobalt 3/4-drive set is $199 but has 6 more sockets and a breaker bar, so a bit more complete.

It seems the cheapest way to complete this set is with the Crescent sockets from Menards, which are also Apex and probably the exact same sockets. Comes out to $57 and change for 6 more sockets (1-5/8 to 2") and throw on another $30 for a breaker bar.

Still a good deal at $27 less than the Kobalt, but I wish this set went into larger sizes.

The sockets would be good for pressing in and out bearings.
That's likely the kind of stuff I'll be using the included sockets for. Only 3/4" drive SAE sockets I need I already own - 1 1/8" and 1 1/2" deep for trailer hitch balls. Only 3/4" drive metric sockets I need I already own - Grey Pneumatic 8134MD Impact Socket Set was $54.22 used (cardboard that slid over the plastic case was slightly crumpled) from amazon warehouse deals.

I just wanted the ratchet, has the shorter handle included, that also takes the 36" handle and the extension. Not a hot deal for me but it got me to finally go ahead and buy a 3/4" drive ratchet that won't be used very often. So now I have it for when I do need it.

If you zoom in close, the sockets say Armstrong, not Gearwrench.

This was in the first link in the first post.

They must have put the wrong picture in the ad.

Also mentioned in post #3. Lots of wrong pics used in product descriptions all over the internet.

Seems to me that people, probably low paid, might have a quota to fill when writing descriptions and posting the pics. Wrong info copied and pasted and even generic pics are not all that unusual.

I stumbled across this set a week ago here on Amazon. It was on sale for $79.00... It is twelve point, which is kind of a downer, but it does have a lifetime warranty and I have a GearWrench distributor up in town, so replacements, if ever needed, should not be an issue.

When I received the set, I was honestly shocked when I opened its metal box... I was looking at a tool truck quality 3/4" ratchet/socket set. Lowes carries a similar set, brushed metal in a FLIMSY blue metal tool box. If you have seen that set, it runs $300+... This GearWrench set is light years ahead in regards to quality, light years. This is serious tool truck gear.

The quality appears be excellent, the sockets are nicely finished, easy to read stamped sizing and the throats are nice and clean, again, very high quality. The ratchet itself is solid, though I have yet to use. The 24 teeth catch nicely and the action is smooth and the directional toggle is solid and locks in place as it should. The case is well made, with a VERY sturdy carry handle, this is NOT a flimsy Chinese metal case. I would expect the case to last for the lifetime of the tools. I really did not "need" this set, being as it is twelve point... But, for $79 and the fact I do work on my own heavy equipment at times, I am sure I will find a use for it.

Mine came in today, I think it is a good looking set. The metal storage box faired much better than the cardboard box it was shipped in as it looked like it had been through hell. The box is much smaller (less depth) than above stock photo. It's just tall enough to wrap the metal box around a socket. The box stands app 2.5 inches tall which I like since it will slide into a small storage nook. The chrome looks good, no flaking and well covered, shiny, clear. It even had a few fresh fingerprints from the packer (someone in Taiwan) still on the sockets :) Overall I like them but I don't turn wrenches for a living, YMMV.
My pics aren't the greatest, sorry, been a long day...I hope they upload ok.

Looks nice. I got the Kobalt set when Lowes was clearancing them for ~$40 2 years or so ago, or I'd bite on this. Case looks similar, just different color.
