Getting my ratchets in order, have settled on going with Gearwrench, I think...

Are the new 90 teeth ratchets as much loved as the now discontinued 84 teeth?

Are they an improvement?

Or should I buy the 84T ones while I still have access to them?

I know most hate the 120T ones, I also could never get over the head shape/size.

I do auto/moto work, mostly old/rusty/corroded/seized. Basically I'm poor.

I have some of the older 84T and they work great and can take the Matco 88 tooth rebuild kits.
Some people in more recent times been complaining about 84T jamming and not very refined but I assume that down to more current production switched coo/factory/spec .
I not over confident in any of gearwrench current produced tools as they cut back on features and quality a lot .
Maybe consider icon, had 20% off ratchets over weekend and warranty is currently simple ...
Tekton could be another one look at and Carlyle when in the sale flyer .
Used could be good low cost option too ...

the 90 tooth models are supposed to be stronger. They are slightly redesigned over the 84 tooth versions. The only negative thing I've experienced with a 90 tooth version is on the 1/4 drive flex head model, there's too much of a gap between the ears of the ratchet head and the forked handle which increases lateral movement. I do like the black and orange comfort grip shape over the older red/black version.

IMO the 120xp is the better choice in the 1/4" drive ratchets, the 90 tooth is better than the 84 tooth across the board. I'd say it's a tie between the 90 tooth and the 120xp in the 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchets. I own all three, and grab the 120xp in 1/4" drive before any of my other 1/4" ratchets.

You might look at the Husky ratchets. They are part of the same family. Aside from a slightly lower tooth count and often a lower price. You can also handle them before buying

The GearWrench 90T has a LOT of neat variations available.

The 120XP's elicit strong opinions here. I've got one in all three major sizes, and they're fine. Not my go-to's, but I can't complain.
