Do all reversible gearwrench's have the capstop feature or is it just a sears exclusive??
Napa has the 8pc sets on sale and I'm thinking of buying a set. But don't want them if they have the capstop feature.

Sears and Lowes were the ones with the capstop feature. Lowes quit selling Gearwrench so, Sears is the only one I know of hosing people with the capstop feature on the reversible gearwrenches.:wtf:

I really like the capstop feature. Keeps the wrench from sliding down past the head of the bolt , nut etc. I have both types. If the bolts are rusted and require a wrench the length of the bolt to get off, then it is very nice to not have to worry about slipping off the nut/bolt.

It's a ridge on on the edge of one side of the box end that prevents the wrench from sliding over the bolt head. I've heard love it or hate it on here....mostly hate.

I called Apex (Armstrong, Craftsman, Gearwrench) with a Armstrong ratchet wrench question and the tech support fellow and I got to discussing the capstop feature found on Gearwrench! He said it is only found at Sears and is old stock. He didn't come out and say it, but I got the impression it may be removed from future production! Not sure if that's true or not, but the set I purchased a month ago online had it. They went back and I was able to find a couple new old stock sets of Armstrong online for about $20 more per set!

Gearwrench with Capstop is at the top with Armstrong for comparison!

What is capstop? And why would I want/not want it on a wrench?

It's a thin flat washer placed on the boxed end of a sears sold reversible gearwrench to prevent it from sliding past a nut on a long threaded rod.
However, the falt washer prevents you from using a reverse grip on the wrench to possibly clear an obstruction and prevents you from using any adapters on the boxed end.
The pictured wrench on the left has capstop. The one on the right doesn't.

I guess I fall into the "I like it" camp. Rarely have I had a need to use the wrench in the opposite position where the cap stop could pose a problem, and the cap stop really works well with the socket adapters that I have.
