I have the opportunity to snap up a set of metric (8-22) and imperial (1/4"-1") GearWrench combination spanners for $99.95. I was wondering if they are quality units?

Can you look at them before buying? Are you talking about their non ratcheting combination wrenches?

Here's my take, when Gearwrench combination wrenches were made in Taiwan, they were really good. Nice chrome, fit, feel, finish, and balance.
Then Gearwrench moved production to the PRC and quality dropped. Reports of bent wrenches, rough finish, off centered boxed ends, and other imperfections arose.

That seems like a great price though for the two sets. :dunno:

I had a look today, and to be honest I think they were alright. I do know they have off centre box ends. Even the ratcheting wrenches have slight imperfections with that. But these didn't seem too bad, I just don't want them breaking on me!

I have the metric set. Mine is the long pattern one. Made in Taiwan. Like mentioned earlier, very nice chrome, fit, finish, and feel.
