Nevermind. Just talked with a Gearwrench. 85071 no longer in production as USA source went bankrupt. Also no parts. Folks selling this obsolete model should be ashamed of themselves for not disclosing this. Replacement model is 85077 which is made in Taiwan. Gearwrench said they were aware of electronics and other issues with the 85071 and all problems rectified on current model.

At that price, just buy the CDI CompuTorq3. It's usually a couple bucks more, but wait for a 25% off sale at Zoro and it'll be around the same price.

Over 2x cost of Gearwrench 077 model and it doesn’t vibrate! $350 vs $140.

I just tossed a GW torque wrench in a garbage bin. Calibrated, with a cerificate and all garbage.

What happened? Was it the previous 071 model with many reported electronic problems or the current model 077? Thanks.

Both are garbage. The earlier model would have a permanent error the second you exceeded its rated capacity. Even if you exceeded it by 1ft lb.

The new model takes like 5 button clicks to setup to do anything. The most non intuitive interface I have ever seen.

The old model looks similar to the craftsman ones I owned, never had an issue in 5 year, moved up to a pair of snap ons, sold the craftsmans to a member here I believe .

I have the Napa branded version of that wrench. While not as good as a Snap-On tech wrench (which is my first choice if I used it all the time) it does a decent job.

After owning a techwrench I just pull a battery if it's going to be sitting. The batteries in mine are 3 years old and still good. The only thing I don't like is that if you can't see the screen it doesn't let you know you are getting close like the Snap-On does.

The current one. Its ratcheting head broke at around 60 pounds. And it didn't work hard in my application. Of course, past the warranty.

Check Craigslist and pawn shops!!! Got a BRAND NEW Snappy 1/2" drive Techangle for $292 out-the-door ( includes an extra $15 for a 2 month warranty!) at a local pawn shop. There's another on Craigslist right now in my area ( East TN.) that looks new for $350. I know it's more expensive but WELL worth it and whats a little extra money verses $220 or so and having to throw it in the trash and start over?
BTW, my friend bought a 3/8" drive Techangle for $220 out the door ,never used and both work fantastic, put them both through their paces on 2 Coyote Fords I built.
