My parts jobber brought me the new 3rd quarter tool catalog today. Inside the front cover was an ad for new Gearwrench impact wrenches. it looks like they have 6 models in 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4 drives. There appears to be a base model and then a "premium model". Naturally, they're so new you can't find them at gearwrench.com but, there are some listed on bay. :wtf:

They look ok in the photo but, who knows how they feel, how powerful they are, or who makes them for Gearwrench. Why Gearwrench would want to expand into the impact wrench tool market is beyond me. I think IR and CP have a pretty good grip on the market :dunno:

Part numbers:

They do look kinda cool. I wouldn't turn one away if they gave me one! Not sure I'd pay 200$ for one though.

I just saw the new impact at GW website and thought somebody must have gotten one by now. Checked my fav GJ site but I guess not. It's funny cuz I asked my SnapOn guy(who's really cool)about a new 3/8" MG and if there's an improved model coming out? He said no and that he hasn't heard of any 3/8" guns being stronger then the MG325. That disappointed me. I think SO has really dropped a few notches for me. I've spent thousands on new guns (IR's,Aircats,Mac,Blue Point,Snap On,Sears,CP,DeWalt,Milwaukee, etc) over the years and none live up to there billing(air powered impacts) or they have power but no control and vibrate your hand numb. Now I'm a lot wiser but very impatient. I look at part listings for info. My new Cornwell IRC9000 is badass I was told it's the IR2235TiMAXX internals which is fine by me. I like the blue color. The GW 3/8" looks kinda like the Cornwell CAT2150 and has about the same torque. My MG31 is a beast and the best operating gun I've owned. I traded in a IRTiMaxx 3/8" for a MG325 but the trigger broke so my tool guy offered me a MG31 trade-in as a loaner. When I got the MG325 back I used both side by side but the MG31 just ruled. He gave it to me for $50 and I'm still using. It sounds badass to, that was the clincher for me the sound. But anyhow with all the new impacts coming out you never find the info or the colors change and if that can change then what's inside can change to. I'm not sure if there is a thread on GJ for THE most powerful impact guns but if there is I'd like to see it.

This is a very touchy subject, Alot of folks here are die hard brand X vs brand X, it's either this brand or the hwy! So good luck if you want info on THE most powerful impact wrench

I would image they are Cleco rebrands (APEX Tool Group company) --- http://www.apexpowertools.com/airimpactwrench/

Yeah I kinda get that. Being in a shop with other techs I get that "my impact is better" or "I'm not spending that much for a impact". It's shop politics. I'm not scared to try out a new gun cuz at some point mine will break and I know that so I have two of my most used air tools. They don't make them anymore but I think knowing what's available to replace them is common sense so I'm not deciding under pressure cuz I have anything to use. Besides if people are reading this thread they may be looking for a few options.

As usual you're on the money.:bowdown::bowdown:

I've never heard of cleco impacts before your post though. :dunno:

To tell you the truth, after using the Proto Impacts I have, I don't even reach for my IR impacts any more. I would have never thought I'd quit using my 2135qtimax/2235timax for Proto but I have.

Hahaha....well, I never heard of Gearwrench impacts before this post, so some tool news passes me by apparently!

I saw the Cleco impacts at STAFDA last year at the APEX booth lineup....they did not seem very interested in pursuing the "tool user" side of things at all & are more-so an industrial supplier for larger impacts. I think that the numbers must be so low on sales, they re-badged them Gearwrench to see where it would go.

I have one of the 1/2" gearwrench guns, they have a version just like my ir 2135, and it is powerful and for the money, I'm very impressed. seems there's two versions available (one with push button F/R and one with dial). You're right, gearwench is owned by APEX (see their website) and they have an entire air tool business for industrial assy that they seemingly partnered with to get these guns out. all in all and bang for the buck, I'm very happy with it.
