You can still see the stickers on them, their advanced autopart stickers. I picked up some clearance items from our local store this weekend. got 4 items for $4. 3 wrenches and one torx screwdriver.

Wow, just wow. Is that all for your own use, or some for gifts?

Quick - hide this thread from Merkava!

Ha! I will probably keep one of each except possibly for the sae stuff (which I rarely use) and the socket rails (which I will keep). The rest of it will eventually get used for gifts or sold, likely the latter.

Yes they are. I went to one store to look for something for myself. When I found out the price, I just couldn't help myself. Since I was driving to my parents' house in Pittsburgh from mine in Connecticut, I stopped at every store that was convenient. My wife is VERY understanding :D

nice !!
How many employees do you have ??? :D

Lol. I've always wanted to have a tool store to myself. Now I do!

I'm guessing someone will be ebaying pretty soon? Are those combo wrenches the ratcheting or standard sets? I tried my local Advance and they were cleaned out pretty quick.

I'm lucky that there are so many stores near me (and then the trip). Many had almost nothing.

The sets are the standard non-ratcheting sets. I never had much interest in them but decided to check them out after Autoace's recent posts. They actually look very similar to the Craftsman Pros that I've seen but with a type of flank drive open end. For the price I paid, there is NO comparison to anything.

I haven't decided how to sell them. I WISH I could just give them to GJ members at cost, but I have no work in December at all- I need to make some money on them or my wife will use those big wrenches on me in ways they are not meant to be used... :spit:

Wow, my wife would be understanding, but she knows that if she lets me do something like that once, it's likely to happen again.

What you could always do is set a price and then offer half of your stash here first. Maybe the average between your cost and the typical price the item goes for via retail, plus 10% more or so? And the other half of the for-sale stash can be sold via ebay.

I am regularly amazed at her understanding of my "disorder(s)".

That is a real possibility. I was actually thinking of something along those lines but not surprisingly yours is better thought out. Whatever I do, it'll probably start next week sometime.

How did you manage $9.95 for the 15 piece set? I thought the blowout price was $39.95?

They did an additional price drop that resulted in the 15pc sets for $9.95 and single wrenches at $1.00.... and then they quickly got eaten up by employees and scavengers. Luck of the draw.

Yeah, I went to my loacl Advance and they had the non ratchet combo set for $40. Just can not see spending that money for some imported stuff so I left them on the counter. Picked them up and they seemed fine, but $40 for imports still seemed about 50% too high. If they were ratcheting I would have gotten them.

Nice haul! I've tried to find the combination sets. I checked the two stores near me (if you can call 30-40 miles "near"). I also checked the four stores in Mom's town over Thanksgiving. Nothing, zilch. The few items all six stores had wouldn't cover your window sill. Oh, well.

I got a bunch of the same stuff as well. I got a few of the socket rails in all 3 sizes as well and I'm very impressed by them. Much better than the metal Craftsman ones as the socket is easier to get on/off, but not as flimsy as I expected a plastic rail to be. The 3/8" flex ratchet is sweet too, too bad I promised my wife I'd gift it to her dad (I said that before I tried it out...kicking myself). I passed on the combo wrench sets, just don't need them at the $39.95 they were going for. The ratcheting stubby driver is nice, got two of those...one for the garage and one for the workshop.

Just got back from my local store - they're completely wiped out of combo wrenches. =(

Then again, it's a relatively new location, so maybe they had very little clearancable GW stock at the start. I did pick up another screwdriver, so it was not a total waste.

Many times the first employee that sees this kind of stuff ring up cheap, buys the rest as soon as the customer leaves. Or calls a friend that does the same.

This is what happened to me... I purchased an SAE and Metric wrench sets and there was one SAE set remaining and a bunch of loose wrenches, misc. Left only to return an hour later and asked the manager that knew nothing of it previously, and they where magically gone... Its all about luck!

Yep, the manager mentioned that as well. Can't really blame them, it's not like most of us wouldn't do the same.

I'm glad they're aren't advance stores here. Wow, I guess that photo can be the poster for too much of a good thing. Between the Sears recent Gearwrench sales and the Avance Parts clearance, Ebay is fairly crowded right now with Gearwrench items. Good luck in unloading your excess.

It is true that ebay and Sears have a bunch of stuff for low prices, but they are mostly ratcheting wrenches. What Advance had on clearance isn't too widely available. That said, even if I sell nothing, I am out less that the cost of the one Proto combination wrench set that I was going to buy this season. :shocking:

LOL, I bought soo much GearWrench stuff, I cannot afford a new camera for a couple of weeks.

I bought 2 sets of combo wrenches like you have, 7 sets of ratcheting wrenches, including the master Gearbox ones, ratchets, sockets sets, drivers, interior fastener tools, etc...............out of the hundreds of pieces, all were perfect, top notch tools, quality one would expect from truck tool brands.

Glad I could spread the deals, the combo wrenches I bought cheap, opened the door to many more GW sales for me. I was impressed, and I can usually find something wrong with anything!LOL

Keep some yourself, including the SAE, you won't ever get a bigger bang for the buck than the SAE tools in your lot there.

Yeah, Autoace- thank you! I think your posts were the reason for looking for this stuff in the first place. I owe you either a beer or a lot of blame! :lol_hitti

I haven't looked closely at all of these but what I *have* seen has been excellent quality. I've been using the ratcheting wrenches for years and have never had a problem, so I don't see why I would with these either.

Well! I didn't tell you to buy all you could find LOL! I only bought what I was going to use, no extras.

I for one, did not think the quality was as stellar, as I experienced, before I bought the big lot of tools on special at A.A. parts. After I got home and compared the tools to my truck brand tools, is when I was impressed.

I still prefer Cornwell XL combos, but am kicking myself for shelling out 300 bucks for the regular Cornwell combo wrenches, I prefer the GearWrench over the regular Cornwell combo wrenches. The finish on the GW ones were better than the Cornwell regular combos, they were also longer than the Cornwells, the GW were just the right size between the short and XL Cornwell sets.
