Like to pick up a set of Mid Length sockets. Was going to go thru EBay or here but got an email for buy one get one. Can get Metric and Sae for $35 in GW.

Any difference bw the too as far as length? Ironically my Craftsman COO USA deep sockets make SO deep sockets look like they are mid length.

I got mid length snap on 3/8" bogo the other day bought the metric impact set for $174 and got the sae impact set for free. I wasn't going to buy mid lengths but bogo can't be beat.

Gear wrench makes great products at a good price. I like their flex head wrenches as long as I don't need to use the open end to do serious torque.

I bought a set of 1/4 metric as I have been using my M12 1/4 ratchet a bunch, I mostly have Snap on Sockets and have been very impressed with the GW sockets.
They are between the height of my Snap On deep and shallows.
FYI I am a full time auto tech so they get used a bunch.

I was going to buy the GW but I figured if I was going to treat myself to one type of Snap On sockets it would be the mid length 3/8 set.I use the heck out of them, they do most of my 3/8 work. They can be had fairly reasonably on Ebay sometimes...

That's some PHUCKIN BS! YOU ****! MY SO Dealer offered me a deal last week buy a CHROME set and get a free ratchet. $230 OTD! Not impressed so of course I pressed. My SO dealer never runs good sales...that is even if he mentions them. I know you do not know me but see if he will honor the deal. I will pay for shipping. How many were in a set?

Thanks for your response. I am going to purchase the GW. If I can get a good deal on SO, one these will make it to my home box.

Ebay is great that is where I get about 90% of my SO tools. My rule of thumbs is that if it $10-$15 cheaper then the dealer, I will buy from him. Sometimes items on EBAY go for more then the truck! :dunno:

You honestly have a NEED for mid length SAE sockets? That's a first to hear. Since modern cars have all metric, the only SAE I'd need is for around the house and older vehicles in which case I do not need a mid depth since deep/shallow will work. I'd much rather have 1/4 and 3/8 metric semi deep than SAE/metric.

<<< HD, MD, & LD diesel technician.

Only truck I work on that takes Metric is Isuzu's.

Not necessarily I have seen a lot of newer gm cars required sae 3/8 on water pumps and manifolds

I have various brands of semi deep sockets in 1/4 and 3/8 drives.

First, if you can find the SK 1/4 drive chrome buy one get one special for $45, that would be my first choice in that drive size. They're well made here.

In 3/8 drive chrome, I'd get Gearwrench. They're finished well inside and out, have large easy to read size markings, and the metric sizes have a great band of knurling on the socket base which aids greatly in finger spinning or removal from a drive tool, and can be had for less than $35 a set if you shop around.

For 1/4 impact, you'll need to wait until Grey Pneumatic's new sets hit the market in the spring or pony up $160 for the Mac set.

For 3/8 impact, SUNEX is your best bet for quality and price. Sunex's 3/8 drive also feature sizes like 21 & 22mm and 15/16 & 1 inch which aren't included in truck brand sets. You just can't beat them for less than $45 a set if you shop around.

I've spent waay too much money over the years on tool trucks, sometimes the best version of a tool doesn't come off of a truck. :dunno:

Maybe he's got to work around stuff.:dunno: It's possible...not likely but possible! Exhaust manifold bolt? Nah. EGR bolt? Nah, most won't get a socket in there anyway. Hub to spindle bolts? Not really, you ain't gonna torque anything with 1/4 anyway. Okay, I retract my statement. You don't really "need" semi deep at all if you have deep sockets in the same drive size (generally) :p

I have Snap On 3/8" 12pt. in SAE and mm, and 12pt. SAE 1/4". Eventually, I will get 1/4" 12pt. mm, and 6pt duplicates for everything, be it Snap On, SK, GW, Nepros or KoKen.

And yes, I do need SAE, as I mostly work on my Jeep CJ, and my 01 F150 is a mix of standard and metric (grrr...).
