I see GW offers a separate 3/8 & 1/4 pass-thru socket set. Respectively, each set combined is 53 pieces. They also sell a combined 3/8 and 1/4 in one set, with 46 pieces. It looks as if both drive sizes mirror socket sizes. I see they both don't offer longer extensions like in the single kits. Does anybody know the other differences?

They list all the pieces on their site...what more do you need?

I have both of the full sets, the 1/4 one isn't worth getting really since it's so small that you rarely have things passing through anyway, I only use the 3/8" one regularly.

The ratchets might be different. More expensive versions have locking flexible head. Get those.

These pass-thru sets are rebranded by multiple companies so the each part is the same but sets have different parts. Funny enough, the only Gearwrench branded part I have is a 1/4" locking flex head.

I have both 1/4" and 3/8" stuff. You don't always have to use them in pass-thru situations as they are good for general use. The ratchet and sockets are low profile, and also they can get to recessed fasteners where ratcheting wrenches can't.

I should have mentioned this would be an at home set, or a grab and go set. I was thinking pass thru for whatever odds and ends come up.

Otherwise, all my real tools are at my other house

I rarely use them, but when i need them.. i need them.

This is pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

I have the Gearwrench 3/8" set. I don't see much of a need for the 1/4" for the stuff I do, so I never picked that up. I really love these things. I don't use them often, but they are excellent when I do need them.
