I'd check the coo. If Taiwan they're probably good, if China I'd pass. Never know with GW but which country it came from tends to tell you if it'll be a good tool or not.

Really though I'd just buy the Knipex and know the tool is gonna bite when I need it to.

I haven't used any so no opinion or experience to add. But if you're serious about purchasing there are better deals.

for example. I'm sure there are others that will beat NAPA but you probably already know that.

I have not tried them but I have found no other readily available brands that I like as much as Knipex.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of Gearwrench tools, I think they do a lot to bring a good quality value priced, wide variety of tools to the market I just prefer Knipex for my pliers brand because they do what you want pliers to do.

The adjustment mechanism does look a little aggravating on these.

Home Depot had a one day sale recently on a Gearwrench set that had an 8 & 10 inch autobite pliers, a set of boltbiter extractors, a 90 tooth 3/8 drive comfort grip ratchet, and a two piece impact screwdriver set all for $40. I digress.
The Autobite pliers in my set are "PRODUCT OF VIETNAM, FINISHED IN CHINA" So that answers any COO questions.
As for the pliers themselves, I think they're strange. You can rotate the lever out of the way and they're basically a set of water pump pliers. if you open the jaws all the way, engage the lever, then squeeze the handles, the lever acts as a fulcrum, auto adjusting to the size of whatever you're gripping. One hand auto adjust. The handles seem a little gummy to me new out of the packaging. There is a small curved section towards the top of each handle on its inner edge that can be used as a non marring grip for things you don't want to scratch like a shower head. The jaws on the 8 inch model are approximately 7/8 of an inch long. Would I have bought these pliers separately? Nope. There is no way these autobite pliers are in the same ball park as Knipex. These pliers don't even have a ticket to the game
There are other Pitbull pliers that might be useful. I have two pair of Crescent K9 (Crescent version of Pitbull pliers) pliers (long nose & dykes) that seem to have better grips than the Gearwrench.

Not planning on buying (have Knipex) but just curious.
