Picked up these beauties this weekend from amazon. Love the cases but would like to take the lids off to place them in my toolbox. They dont seem like they want to come apart easily. Is my only way to cut them off? Anybody have them? What are your thought about the brand or the tools specifically?

If they are solid then I think you would just have to cut them, but if they are flimsy you might be able to push the inside hinges inward enough to get past the pegs in the hinge and take it off.

DON'T CUT THEM!!!!!

The lids don't come off the way you might think, but they are designed to be removed so the tray portion can be stored in a rolling chest.

Look at the case, opposite of the lid side, while it's open- you'll notice that the hinges are attached to the lid on the same side (both on the left or both on the right of the hinges from the tray part). If you hold the bottom tray part in place and push the lid sideways (left or right) towards the direction of the hinge section connected to the lid, it will pop off. There's just a little plastic detent keeping the lid on.

I had a set in my box for a few years and this was a great feature. I ended up selling it because the ratchets auto reversed almost every time I used them and it was nice to be able to put the lid back on.

Ive tried pushing them out but those suckers are really in there. Prying is maybe possible to pry them sideways out of the pivot point

as others have said the lid comes off by tapping it to the left. Use a rubber mallet if you have one.

It takes a little force but they will pop off, when mine finally let go half the set when flying across the bench I spent several minutes picking up the pieces

Since the other responders have told you how to separate you trays and lids...(A little force is required...Use a rubber mallet and drive the lid away from the hinge on the base...)

I'll tell you about the tools...

Ya Dun Gud, Bubba!!!

My Wife bought me the Master Socket sets in the trays, not the cases...

And the 120 Tooth Flex Head Ratchets...

All are worth more than the price charged...

I bought the 1/4 set from autozone when they were 39.95. I like them I tossed them in my trunk as part of a road box..

My set is made in Taiwan but I've noticed New stock is China so I don't know if they are as good
