You might maybe want to keep an eye out at Advanced Auto stores. The guys there told me that they were going to discontinue carrying Gearwrench brand due to the fact that they do not sell well. I picked up a 5 piece ratcheting wrench set in Metric the other evening for $19.99. I think it was 10mm, 12mm, 13mm, 14mm, & 15mm.
I do have to say I was also impressed with a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter. We were wrenching off the U-bolts for the differential in my Jimmy and grabbed the 1/2" impact. The only 19mm I had deep enough was in a 3/8 drive. I had it on the Gearwrench adapter. BTW....I know it is not supposed to be done, but the socket was a standard Craftsman 6 point deepwell. We hammered on the nuts of the U-bolt until the socket was too hot to touch. I figured the adapter would twist around and/or the socket break. We also had to but the nuts loose with a 24", 1/2" drive breaker bar that took all we had of pulling on it to get them to but loose. An hour and a half of impacting and we had all eight off. Lost a little chrome on the socket tip from the heat and hammering of the impact, but the little adapter showed virtually NO sign of any wear whatsoever. Looked like it came right out of the package.

Anyways....keep an eye out at your Advanced to see if they are getting rid of their stock if you like Gearwrench.

I know it's a sign of the times, but it's a shame that Advance keeps the Gearwrench rack way behind the counter at our store with prices difficult, if not impossible, to see.

If you want to examine an item, it's like going into an 1800s country store where you have to track down a clerk and have him hand you each item individually. That kind of marketing kills impulse buying.

Once they put the Gearwrench stuff out front on closeout, it will sell like hotcakes.

I stopped by a couple of Advanced Auto stores yesterday and they were both doing a major reset on their tool aisles. They seem to be stocking a different import tool brand that I have never heard of. One of them still had most of thier Gearwrench inventory at full price. The other one had only a few Gearwrench items left hanging, but I asked one of the guys and he said that they did not have them on clearance. He said they were just moving stuff around.

Advance is not discontinuing GearWrench brand... simply making some adjustments to their product mix to cater better to their customer base.

I just checked the advance autoparts, they carry Gearwrench, I bought a 3/8 ratchet, it is little bigger than my F80, and alot thinner,

GearWrench Brand:
I hope that gearwrench would make long non-flex ratchets(10 in ratchet)

The way I heard it is Advanced is getting rid of GearWrench is because they're gonna sell their own line of tools. I drop into the local Advanced a couple times a week, waiting for the big sale. Hasn't happened yet, Same thing happened up here when O'Reilly's took over Murray's. Murray's sold Powerbuilt tools. They were replaced by some mystery brand badged AC Delco.

What the guys told me at Advanced was that they were going to quit carrying Gearwrench and switch over to another brand. They did not say which brand and I didn't ask at the time as I was in kind of a hurry. If I get over there tomorrow, I'll ask them what brand they are going to start carrying. One thing they did say is that Gearwrench in their store does not sell well. And in our Advanced, the tools are out in the open unlike what KenS stated about the one in his area.

You should of heated up those u bolts and they would come off like nothing unless you had no access to a torch.

I had a Oxy-Acet set in the other part of the garage, but the hoses and gauges were not connected, I would have had to bring it over to the other side, and the fact that I had just filled up the gas tank, kind of kept me from doing it. If I knew it was going to take that long though, I'd have gotten the tanks and torched the U-bolts off as I have to put new ones on anyways. I won't reuse U-bolts.

I use something like this when I'm to lazy to drag my torches; BernzOmatic Torches, Trigger-Start Hose Torch - BZ8250HT; works like a charm; not for cutting off bolts; but for getting them loose

Just went to advance today. The Gearwrench behind the counter is on clearance, but they don't seem to be pushing hard to get rid of them. Their flyer has the 5pc set on sale for $19.99. I don't think they would advertise a line that they were going to get rid of.

I just went there today and scored some pretty big deals. I got a 21, 23, and 27mm long combo wrenches for $5 a peice. I also got a 3/8 60 tooth stubby ratchet for $5, a 1/4 60 tooth standard ratchet for $7.95, 8" linesman pliers for $5, a T40 torx screwdriver for $2, and a 1/4 cabinet tip screwdriver for $2. Not bad for $38 total. The wrenches and ratchets alone are worth at least $20 a piece.

Oh, and the guy there said they were just streamlining their inventory, not discontinuing the whole brand.

Yes, that is correct.

All you guys need to do now is get Advance Auto Parts stores in the Phoenix area.:bounce:

Where are the pictures and descriptions of the new products from SEMA/AAPEX on the Gearwrench website? What about the 1st qurater new products release? What about the impact sockets, scrapers, wrenches, new flex head torque wrench, etc? Inquiring minds want to expand their Gearwrench tools.

These sales must be a regional thing. Swung by the local Advanced this A.M. All the individual combo wrenches were gone. I was told by the store manager that was all that was on sale. Sets, ratchets, screwdrivers, sockets and whatever was left would be "sent back," whatever that means.
