I am looking for a starter set for my daughter. If this set is Taiwain is it a good deal at $119? I will check for COO before I buy. I don't care about the wrenches because it isn't close to a good set. I have been hunting for NOS USA Craftsman but have not found anything. I kick myself for not buying a set earlier.

It's a shame you can't use any of the coupons on it.

The 40% coupons work on most Gearwrench stuff.

Advance states is already a good deal. No more discounts. Another JEEP guy! I have a '48. Someday I will make it my avitar if I figure out how.

With GW you wont know COO until you buy it. Its still a great value for dollar. Tooltopia has the 1/4 and 3/8 master sets on sale as well for $100 (for both).

For the money China vs Taiwan wouldn't be that much of a worry to me. Its an issue with wrenches because of the lobster claw open ends but I've yet to see any complaint about their ratchets or sockets, regardless of COO.

That's good because I am really only going to buy it for the ratchets and sockets. I am planning on getting her some long combo SK wrenches for Christmas. Just can't really swing a comparable SK socket set right now. She is good about using my stuff and putting it back but we are restoring an old SK box right now and want to help get her started with decent stuff like my Dad did. Still use all the sockets and wrenches he bought me.

If COO/SK really matters to you, the SK 1/4 master set is ~$130. Could just get the 3/8 set at a later date.

I REALLY like this deal a lot. I can add the 1/2 drive later. But you said I won't know COO until after purchase. I haven't bought from these folks before. If I call them, will the tell me?

When I bought my first sets of sockets as a teen in the mid-70's, I bought an 3/8 set. And they were SK (lost many of the sockets in a move but still have some of them). I was able to do a lot of work with them before I picked up a set of 1/4 and 1/2 sockets and ratchets.

Tooltopia has a nice set in metric and sae at a great price -

You can fill in later with 1/4 and 1/2 sets and wrenches.

Your best bet is the buy one get one 3/8 and 1/4 drive sets tooltopia is offering on sale right now. They're excellent quality and the most complete you'll find at this price. You just can't find a better starter set.

I was asking about the tooltopia set there... But luckily both the Napa and my Advance in town have great folks. Both stores have their product offering strengths and weekneses. First stop in the a.m. Is Advanced but probably going with Tooltopia.

I dont think you can go wrong with that 118 pc Gearwrench set for your daughter, I just bought my mother the 130 pc harbor Freight set. It was more complete than the Gear wrench set, but the gear wrench set has nicer ratchets. That ratchets are cheap enuff for me to upgrade with the Pittsburgh Pro so I wasnt worried about that detail. I was more concerned that she had a one stop fix it tool kit for the house when I am not around.

Very happy to find that the sockets included were all the Pittsburgh Pro which I am familiar with and have been using myself for the last 2 years. The rest of the kit was well thought out and covers most of what she would fix from the lawn tractor, to household things like bed frames, hanging pictures, tightening chair legs, etc.....

That is a great deal. I have searched and searched and Finally said screw it and pulled the trigger. Can you pm about the details of your CJ?

Sorry, I missed this.
But go ahead! I think I have some before and after pictures around here somewhere. I've been working on it for a few years now.

I've been to several Advance Auto's and they all have 1 of these kits in stock covered in dust and faded. To me that would indicate it may be Taiwan stock but I feel like the 120xp's didn't come out until after the Chinese move.

EDIT: Just see that they were Taiwan, awesome.

HD Husky is a spot on match as well if you need a quick replacement and don't want to order a single socket online.
