gearwrench torque ?

I need to buy a torque wrench in inch #.Talked with a local independent tool guy and he suggested Gearwrench, is it a decent tool ? I am not a mechnic by trade, so i dont want to spend a great deal but i don't want a piece of junk either. So if gearwrench is out any other suggestions?

I have 1/2" and 2 3/8" ones, made in the usa and never had an issue yet. 3 years old.

I use daily doing engine repairs in a diesel shop.

How much are you looking to spend, you are going to get allot of pretty expensive suggestion. Also how precise are you looking for. And are you looking for a 1/4 3/8 or 1/8 drive?

I need it to go down to 25 inch# i dont really have a set budget as i dont know the range that they can be (as i type this i think i just set my self up)

Okay, do you want a clicker or scale type. Craftsman has a very accurate beam with a scale that has a life time warranty. It is about 25 dollars.

OP is looking for "inch" pounds, not "foot" pounds.

I think they are fine wrenches. I was going to go with them but ended up going with CDI clickers. I have a clicker in the same inch pound as you are talking about. My brother-in-law is a professional tech and his shop also uses digital gearwrench TQ. He loves them. Clickers are still USA made, but I didn't like the handle on their clickers, but other then that they are fine. Tooltopia.com has good prices.

Maybe, but doing a conversion to 2 foot pounds and expecting that beam wrench to be accurate at that low of a scale is asking a bit much of it.

Any torque that is asking for 25 inch pounds specifically is wanting an accurate torque wrench for that and most likely will be a 0-150 inch pound one.

Yes, I'd suggest going with Precision Instruments because they're more widely used in the industry and most calibration labs will be able to calibrate it easily when the time comes.

being down at 25 inch pound you will most likely need a 1/4 drive clicker. Check out the k tools international one. They are about 30 dollars. If you do not need a super expensive one. Also HF has a 1/4 inch pound one also. About 25 dollars.

But if you need very precise you will be paying over 140 dollars to start.

People rag on HF but I have had really good luck with their torque wrenches. I have a 1/2" that is very accurate even using it for years for lug nuts.

+1 on the HFT torque wrenches, i own all 3 of them and have checked several dozen of them in the past and *all* of the ones I checked were very accurate... like 30 ft-lbs reading between 29.8 ft-lbs to 30.5 ft-lbs ... that's pretty darn close.

ironically, i was just checking one of my beam-type torque wrenches and it was massively off! 30 ft-lbs was actually 35 ft-lbs! i may have to get it exchanged...
