looks identical to my 1/4" gear wrench pass thru set that i bought from advance auto not too long ago, right down the plastic case(but without the ace logo, obviously), 99% sure that it's made by gear wrench.

I thought it was gearwrench when I bought it, but then I got to looking at the wordplay on the package and wasn't sure. It's SAE, but they had metric too.

Nothing showing up except the $43 3/8 set for my local Ace. I may swing by for a peek though, not like these have apparently sold well except as clearance items.

Went to my local Ace yesterday, to see. The regular price for each set is $19.99. They're not yet marked down - I said "yet" because they're all going to be replaced by Sears Craftsman tools, as are all (or almost all) of the Ace-branded tools. So sale or closeout prices on the GearWrench or GearRatchet tools is likely going to be a store-by-store deal.

My Ace has more GearWrench stuff. I'll check back often to see if/when the rest goes on clearance. I wonder what the Ace across town has on sale. Have you read something about Ace clearing out GearWrench? Ace stores here have carried both brands, GW and Cman for quite a while, along with the odd Ace branded stuff from who knows where.

My local store has started re-arranging the tool display to accommodate the Cman tools, following charts they were sent. The GearWrench tools all are together, and on red-tagged hangars, while many or most of the other non-GearWrench tools are not. Given the OP note about the price in his local store, and the likelihood of the store not carrying multiples of tools that are close to each other in function, I bet that they're dropping the line (the store guys weren't sure).

August is the target date for the rest of the CM stock being in the stores, so we may see sales next month. Maybe they permit local stores do what they want regarding non-CM tools.

Then again, who knows?

I passed there today, and checked again. All the GearWrench and Ace tools are on sale. The Gear Ratchet sets varied in discount; the 3/8" drive equivalent set, with SAE and metric sockets (made in China) was reduced 50%, from $42 to $21, and so I picked one up to keep at the office (I have a Taiwan-made set at home). The smaller 1/4" sets with the insert bits were reduced only 20% (list $19.99).

I don't know about Ca. but in Montana, I think each store is independently owned and managed by the franchisee. He has a lot of leeway in terms of what he stocks on the shelves. One local manager was not aware of any plan to phase out the gearwrench or ace brands. He said that there would be more variety, and some trade offs, but that as far as he knew, they would be carrying all three options for the immediate future anyway.
Pop in, ask for the manager and have a chat. They like that sort of thing I would think. Every good manager wants to know what his customers are thinking. kr.
