Gearwrench warranty question

Hi folks,

I have a Gearwrench microdriver set I bought many years ago, probably at Sears if memory serves. It's seen light use, but it has come in handy for certain things. I was using it today, and the 5/16" ratchet mechanism just fell out of the handle. Unfortunately, all of the various little pieces fell out and disappeared on my driveway, so no hope of reassembling. The 1/4" ratchet on the other side of the handle still works fine, and it's seen a lot more use than the 5/16ths end.

Anyway, my question is: Does Sears warranty Gearwrench stuff, or do I need to contact Gearwrench and send it in to them? Supposedly it has a lifetime warranty, just not sure how to handle it. I can't find it on Gearwrench's site either, so I'm not sure if they even make it anymore....

If you aren't familiar with it, it's still listed on Sears' website: http://www.sears.com/gearwrench-mic...a=00930035000P&kpid=00930035000&mktRedirect=y

Thanks for any guidance!

Do you have an Auto Value auto parts store near your area? They warranty Gearwrench since Auto Value sells them.

You can call Apex Tools and see what they say.

But, warranty service can sometimes be one of the negatives of Apex Tools brands. Some people claim they send them a new tool, but I called once and they didn't do that. Maybe it's changing for the better now that they've changed hands, but I don't know.

You'll find the number and more info here:

Look on the gearwrench website for the closest dealer to you. Sears does warranty it, as does Napa, and several other places. My local Napa had my replacement wrench in the next morning.

Thanks everybody - the Sears near my house claims to have 2 sets in stock, so I'll stop by there on my way home tomorrow to see if they will exchange it without a hassle. If they won't do it, I'll call the number on the website and see what they have to say.

Just a quick follow up - even though they hemmed and hawed about it, Sears finally did replace my set with one of the ones they had on the shelf. At first they said I'd have to call Apex/Gearwrench, but then the guy called a manager and went ahead and did the exchange.

Thanks everybody!
