Hey everyone, I have some Amazon gift cards burning a hole in my pocket, and was thinking about getting some decent ratchets. I'm just a weekend wrencher, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on them.

I've been looking into some of the 84T Gearwrench ratchets, and thought those were definitely the ones I wanted to get. Now I started looking into some of the 120XP ratchets, and am a little confused on what to get. Does anyone that has used both types have any input on whats the better ratchet? Are the 120's a lot smoother?

Thanks in advance.

Haven't tried the GW 120's, but I'm of the view that much past 60 teeth or 72 is just bragging rights, there's really diminishing returns on the useful value of the smaller swing radius. If it was a good price and I liked it, I'd be fine with a 120, but I've got a 60 tooth Armstrong 1/4" that I just don't see any need to upgrade. Depends on what you've already got for ratchets, and how badly you want new ones, I guess...

Does gearwrench show all their ratchets on their website? I was looking not long ago and they dont show the 120xp's or 84t racthets.

All they show is a full polished 60t ratchet in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 drives.

Anything over 60 is fine, IMO. I didn't see a big difference between my 60 and 88 tooth ratchets.

As others have pointed out, there's not much improvement between 60, 84, 88, 90, or 120 teeth. You're only talking about spreading teeth out on a gear the size of a quarter (aside from the 120 double pawl angle).

You can only get the 120xp ratchet in standard length ratchets, no flex heads yet.

Go to tooltopia.com add an F to the end of any gearwrench ratchet part number like 81009 will get you the 84 tooth version of the Gearwrench 1/4 inch drive flex head ratchet with comfort grip..

Any of the Gearwrench 60, 84, or 120 tooth ratchets will serve you well. I regularly use and abuse mine daily and they keep on working.

I haven't tried the 120xp but since they not available as a flex head or with a soft handle I am not interested.
