I'm in the market for some ratcheting wrenches. I'm leaning towards the Gedore 7UR line-up. Unfortunately, I can't find any retailers who are willing to ship them to the United States. I've contacted half a dozen websites / eBay sellers, and they all say they don't ship outside of the EU. :dunno:

Does anyone know of any retailer(s) who carry the Gedore 7UR line, and are willing to ship outside of Europe?

GedoreTools.com ships to the USA, but their markup is ridiculous. They want $36.53 for the 13mm, and $42.37 for the 15mm. :eyecrazy: The Euro sellers I've seen, retail them for around 12 euros ($16~).

I haven't seen too many posts on Garage Journal with people talking about Gedore 7UR testimonials. They don't seem to be too popular with the community here? Any reason why?

Get in touch with fellow member Jenspuitzer, sorry if I misspelled his name. He specializes in Hazet, but I'm sure he could help you out. Very reasonable prices for both item and shipping from Germany.

My bad, sorry Jens.

Let us know what kind of quote you get, I might be interested too. I got a quote from another vendor here, and the price was almost $350 for the set :scared: Too rich for my blood

Jens quoted me at "close to 20 Euro each plus 12 Euro for the least expensive shipping method to the USA." That's still a bit too rich for my blood. That'd come out to 52 euros / $70 for (2) wrenches.

I'm going to continue my search. I've emailed about a dozen new sellers in Europe... So, I'll keep you posted here. If you happen to find a reasonably priced seller first, please do let me know though!

Why are you so set on those wrenches? There are a few tools where I'd go to the trouble of personally importing them and having the hassle of difficult warranty etc, but ratchet wrenches certainly wouldn't qualify.

If they are this difficult to buy, imagine the fun you'll have trying to get one warrantied. There are too many quality ratcheting wrenches available here in every price range for this to be worth the trouble IMO.

Because the Gedore wrenches cost about $300 a set. That and Gedore has very little exposure in the US. GW can be picked up for a tenth of that during sales at any local sears. Even Snap-On is cheaper (through ebay).

I have a set of 7R (straight and non-reversing) and a 13mm 7UR. Bought them from Germany (http://www.tbs-aachen.de) for decent prices.

I like them, but they're not as smooth as most Taiwan made ones I have tried. They require a break in also, first use is much rougher than after a bit of time. The finish on the 7-series is overall great, and I really like the design. They feel tough and sturdy also, I have full confidence in their quality. If I was more adventurous I might try greasing them, but haven't bothered to yet.

lol alright for some, isn't it? :bounce: I'm shortly going to be importing two sets of JH Williams ratcheting wrenches for NZ$360. Here, I'm having shops try to charge me NZ$250 for one set of a lesser quality brand (albeit still from Taiwan).

Depending on where you are and what you want, it's worth it...

edit: TjoFrasse, I like your sig... it is Monte's fault! lol

I have to say that I am not a Gedore dealer, so I offered to get them here in Germany and ship them to the US. Sorry if that price is more expensive than from someone else. The problem is that many German dealers do not bother to deal with people in foreign countries because of shipping out of Europe, speaking foreign languages and so on....

That's a very valid point about the hassle of having to warranty them if there's an issue. The only potential point of problem I can foresee would be the ratchet mechanism, but it looks easily self-serviceable w/ replaceable parts. I do take very well care of my tools though. And I only need the Gedore 7UR in 13mm & 15mm sizes for a specific job. They won't be used frequently, or for high-torque applications.

I have S-O & Craftsman ratcheting wrenches that I use for the grunt-work. I'm looking to buy the Gedore 7UR for use only a few times a year. And I'm looking to keep them for as many years as I possibly can. Besides some Stahlwille sockets, I don't own any other German sockets/spanners and figured this was the perfect opportunity to sample another German brand's quality.

Not to mention, aesthetically these Gedores look absolutely beautiful to me.

Stunning! Absolutely stunning. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I contacted the retailer via email that you purchased them from, tbs-aachen.de, and they refuse to ship them outside of Europe. I have no idea why. I inquired if they would do the transaction via their eBay store, and they said no to that, too. All of a sudden, I feel like they're treating the USA as if we're the same as the infamous Nigerians scammers!

Jens, I hope I didn't come across as offended by your specific pricing; as that was not my intention. I understand completely that you're not a Gedore dealer, and that you'd be doing me a favor. I was just voicing my frustration at the lack of availability in the US market.

To the OP, I hope you've found what you were looking for. I'm from Europe and grew up using Gedore tools working on cars with my dad. The amount of beating these tools took for many years while still functioning properly always amazed me. The chrome-vanadium steel Gedore uses for their tools has exceptional characteristics. This combined with the tolerance allowances they follow making their tools is what make them worth every penny in my opinion. When they say "tools for life", them germans mean it! I've also struggled to find any dealers in the US that offer Gedore at a reasonable price. The once I've had any success with were already mentioned. Samstag is one of them. Just recently got an 8 piece 1/2 drive metric socket set - 10,11,12,13,14,15,17,19mm for 65 bucks. I would also keep checking Ebay for Gedore listings that show up every once in a while. Just recently purchased this set http://www.gedore.de/en/products/article_details.html?oe_opt[list_set]=146747,136165,136227,136229,140955 for $265. Same set is like $500 on the Gedore.us site, which is ridiculous. Good luck with the search!
