Hi all

I need to buy a new set of 1/2" sockets
Gedore South Africa here have the normal 6 and 12 point sockets but also a "C Profile "one

Seems like a flank or surface drive type socket.

Im no professional, but like to buy good quality when I buy.

Any opinion on these, or should I rather stick to a 6 point set ?
Are these more for rounded bolts or for every day use ?

Thanks

Hi and welcome here. Have a look at this: Socket test

This set is for general everyday use, can do metric/imperial in the same socket. Got a set like this, also 6 point, 12 point sets from all over. Personally, I use a socket that will best work on what I am doing right now, no prefrence for any one in particular. Gedore is very high quality.

Hope this is usefull to you.

Welcome Mr Toolman! I've got the normal Gedore 12pt sockets and many mechanics in this country have been using them for decades without problems. You cannot go wrong with Gedore ito quality or after sales support.

they're called lobe sockets in the states. I'd be afraid to use them as my go-to sockets personally. From appearance they just dont look like they've got enough meat to grab a deteriorating fastener. Maybe i'm wrong, i dunno, i just know what works.

makes them as well.

Thanks Krokodil

Do you perhaps have the name of a good place that can order me Gedore stuff ?
I usually just get it at Makro or Buiders warehouse, but would like to get some of the things they dont keep.

Currently thinking of getting a 12 point set, with some 6 point for high torque bolts and a few specific C profile ones in case of stripped bolts.

Sound good ?

Would really like some Hazet/Stahlwille sockets, but havent found a easy place in JHB to get
