My local Lowe’s had a taped-up, ugly, almost unmarked, cardboard box of tools marked down from $1711 to $500. I was told it had been a special order that was refused. I got the manager to open it up and I discovered it was an 80 piece Gedore metric set.

Long story short, Lowe’s could not make good on a lifetime guarantee hex socket replacement (new ones no longer made in USA). So I asked the manager how much he would sell me the Gedore tool set for, since it had been there a few months. $200 was his answer!

You can see what I got below. Sockets go from 10mm-32mm. Combination wrenches from 8-24mm. Pliers are simply amazing quality with perfect alignment, no play, and no binding. The Gedore stuff is crazy-expensive, with things like files that go for $80+ each. But it's just beautiful. I generally buy good tools (SK, Crescent, Irwin, Vise-Grip, Snap-On, etc.), but this Gedore stuff is in a whole different league.

6600000.jpg

The picture is a bit misleading as to scale. That's a 1/2" drive socket set and the largest socket is a 32mm. For perspective, the adjustable wrench is an 8" wrench.

The hacksaw in mine is a much nicer one with a pistol grip handle. And the blade they supplied was beautifully heat-tempered.

This is great, but it *****, too. Makes me realize how crappy my Channel Lock, Crescent, Craftsman, etc. tools are by comparison. Now I'm spoiled.

I love that pipe wrench. I've been looking at a similar one Knipex makes, just waiting for an excuse to buy one!

That was really a crazy score:) Congrats, Gedore are top quality and play in the same league as Hazet and stahlwille! For an example: My 17pc stahlwille open box 14 wrench sets costs like 300 usd here! I payed 175usd, but my friend owns a toolstore with stahlwille tools so..

That is a good deal, I like Gedore stuff, ots definitely high quality.
Those Habero hammers are good, the red bit below the head is metal and protects the handle from miss hits, I have a couple of that style.

Damn you! More pictures please!!

Happy to oblige. But I didn't even dust them off or wipe them down. Gedore seems to do themselves a real disservice by not posting high resolution images of the tools they sell. Some of the images had flash. Some did not. So know that the color of the metal on the diagonal cutters is just the same silver as the electrician's pliers.

Everything shown in the open drawer, save for the Kobalt socket organizer, was included. You can also see a picture of the box, explaining the why so few people inquired:

Fred: I totally agree that you made a terrific deal on this set. Maybe i missed it, but did you say or have an idea how old these are? thanks for sharing and of course another brand of tools just went on my radar.

As gorgeous as these are, It's hard to believe this is the same Gedore whose crappy made in india wrenches litter the flea markets.

I wonder if they would be more popular in the States if people didn't associate the name with their brief affair with cheap tools...

I think that they are just a few months old. They were clearly never used as they were almost all sealed in plastic bags and boxes.

Bean counters just don't understand the damage that something like that does. It goes the other way, too, though. Think of all of the previously high-end tool brands that are now mediocre junk. I bet that most people still believe that Craftsman wrenches are all made in the USA to high standards.

No, but when I farted it just made a quiet "whoosh" sound.

On the OP's original post he has a link to what looks like a Lowe's web page. I didn't realize Lowe's even sold these but if you scroll to the bottom of the page, there are "related" items, including a $3500 180 piece set. Next visit to Lowe's, might need to scour the place to see if there could be an old rickety box with one of these on clearance! (WTF, I have seen a Unicorn in the flesh, anything is possible)

BTW OP, that goes beyond a you **** in my book. Easily the best deal in this very young 2015

It was a different vendor, not Lowe's. Just looked for a good picture and breakdown of the tools and that's where I found it.

Lowe's is willing to special order things that they don't list, and this fell into that category. I have no idea why it was still there. I have to wonder if the person who ordered it just couldn't afford it once it got there. I would have expected Lowe's to require payment in advance with no return, but apparently not.

The India made stuff was made for that region only, but some of it has somehow made its way over here.

Some of it? I inevitably see Gedore wrenches in pawn shop lots etc. and they're ALL made in India combo wrenches.

I've never used them, they might actually not ****. I have a few in my "backup" box, but if I don't have to take them with a lot, I usually pass them over. is that a mistake?

Dang, I doubt I would have been calm enough to haggle after seeing the $500 price. Definitely a "You ****" score.

Personally, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss them. Only ever seen the German stuff myself, but I can't see a company like Gedore, (unless they're yet another company to suffer the Snap-On takeover scourge?), producing tat, no matter the country of origin.

+1 I've only seen INDIA marked tools, at flea markets, swap meets, and Garage sales
