My local Lowe’s had a taped-up, ugly, almost unmarked, cardboard box of tools marked down from $1711 to $500. I was told it had been a special order that was refused. I got the manager to open it up and I discovered it was an 80 piece Gedore metric set.
Long story short, Lowe’s could not make good on a lifetime guarantee hex socket replacement (new ones no longer made in USA). So I asked the manager how much he would sell me the Gedore tool set for, since it had been there a few months. $200 was his answer!
You can see what I got below. Sockets go from 10mm-32mm. Combination wrenches from 8-24mm. Pliers are simply amazing quality with perfect alignment, no play, and no binding. The Gedore stuff is crazy-expensive, with things like files that go for $80+ each. But it's just beautiful. I generally buy good tools (SK, Crescent, Irwin, Vise-Grip, Snap-On, etc.), but this Gedore stuff is in a whole different league.
The picture is a bit misleading as to scale. That's a 1/2" drive socket set and the largest socket is a 32mm. For perspective, the adjustable wrench is an 8" wrench.
The hacksaw in mine is a much nicer one with a pistol grip handle. And the blade they supplied was beautifully heat-tempered.
This is great, but it *****, too. Makes me realize how crappy my Channel Lock, Crescent, Craftsman, etc. tools are by comparison. Now I'm spoiled.

Not oft I'll post in a new tools thread, but that sounds such an absolutely spanking deal Fred, even I felt obliged to post.
