Some of it? I inevitably see Gedore wrenches in pawn shop lots etc. and they're ALL made in India combo wrenches.

I've never used them, they might actually not ****. I have a few in my "backup" box, but if I don't have to take them with a lot, I usually pass them over. is that a mistake?

I don't have any experience with the stuff made in India, but the German stuff is industrial quality, they aren't the pretties tools but I doubt you can ever brake one of there sockets or wrenches. Also any German wrench that is over 55 mm is made by Gedore for that company they are the only factory in Germany that has very large forging dies.

If any GJ member wants to try out some Gedore items, let me know I can offer you guys 35% off retail pricing for a while, majority of the tools are made in Germany and some are Austria mainly pliers.

Omg.. Amazing deal.

Im a Gedore freak. Stahlwille, some Hazet and a special favourite brand i keep to myself so other people dont start buying them up used..
I mainly collect (and use) tools from West Germany.. That way i know they're older than 89'
And it's just a nice little touch.
My dad and i have old Gedore tools thats been in use(and abuse) since the late 70'ies early 80'ies.. Sockets among others. I love old german tools.
You're right. Gedore is better than Snapon(at least the snapon i have bought from time to time)

Congrats on the purchase. Thats a deal of a century!

I am a relative newbie having only been on the forum less than 2 years. I have withheld the coveted "You ****".... until now. That, my friend, deserves a huge "you ****". Complete sets...brand new...German made...oh yeah, you ****.

The India made stuff was made for that region only, but some of it has somehow made its way over here.

I've heard that before, but I simply can't accept it as being true; there is FAR too much of the INDIA product kicking around in Canada for it to have wandered over here.

Personally, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss them. Only ever seen the German stuff myself, but I can't see a company like Gedore, (unless they're yet another company to suffer the Snap-On takeover scourge?), producing tat, no matter the country of origin.

Dismiss them with haste! They really are poor...

I think Canadian Tire sold the Made in India Gedore for a while, mid-to-late 80's???? There are a couple of 6mm-23mm combination wrench sets at my work.

I don't personally remember that, but my cousin had a set and - where he lives - Canadian Tire would have been one of the few possibilities.

Since when Lowe's started selling Gedore. As this is a fine German tool manufacturer. Did it come off Kobalt line or Gedore making Kobalt? Which one is it?

Gedore india was pretty much at every flea market or pedal bike shop when I was a kid, Cheap throw away pot metal junk. Still have a handful of the wrenches that I bought as a kid. You could bend the wrenches with your bare hands. I all ways over look that brand since most of the stuff you see here under gedore is the junk from the 80's

lowes has a few name brand tools that can be ordered from the website, they never stock it though. I assume that's how this one ended up in his store.

The Gedore spanners are among the most comfortable I've ever used ! Got a set that goes from 1/4" through to 2", and they're worth every cent!

...they aren't the pretties tools but I doubt you can ever brake one of there sockets or wrenches.

One of the problems where I worked building satellites (prior to retirement) was shiny chrome plating sometimes peeling off of tools. While that's an annoyance in a garage, it could be a disaster at a company manufacturing satellites and space probes. A fleck of chrome in the wrong place could end a mission for a satellite that costs tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars.

Gedore's textured chrome finish is designed to reduce the chance of such peeling and, not surprisingly, they sell a lot of tools to the aerospace industry. I find that textured finish, whether on Gedore or competing wrenches, provides a better grip when hands are wet or oily.

You and I must frequent the same pawn shops 'cuz I see that India **** all the time just as you do. It's always flaked/rusted and simply looks and feels like ****. I am going to go back around today though and see if just maybe some of it isn't "India" sourced. But you're right, it's everywhere around here.

Ha, I didn't know Gedore was perceived as junk in the US. Here they are regarded as one of the top brands (definitely for spanners and sockets). I doubt I've ever seen an Indian Gedore wrench, they're all quality and very expensive, even secondhand.
