I highly DON'T recommend this - closest I've come to rolling the thing - lol
the right rear is over those rocks - not the sand and we're descending a super steep slope and I've just gone off a step...
I go off the step and the back end starts going up in the air. I'm about to goose it to have the front wheels pull me out from turning turtle (as 60 grand flashes before my eyes) and my buddy yells "FREEZE!" - so I freeze.
He climbs up and runs around behind the jeep (I figure he's going to jump on the back bumper or something to help stabilize me) and he snaps this photo and says "ok.. you can go now".
I could have killed him... lol

Question about scaling. Is there a feature to restrict the scale of an image through the forum or did you resize your photo and upload the resized photo? Looking through the page source it appears that you uploaded a resized photo.
No automatic scaling is very annoying in this forum software.

Everytime I see posts like this the excuse of "my friends live here" becomes less and less important as I start trying to convince the wife to move to Colorado. Great shop, glad to see another IT guy on here, and loving the toys ... and that view is amazing.

Fantastic build thread. Read through all of it last night. Can't wait to see how the inside of the garage comes out when you finish installing the other windows, insulate, and hang some drywall.
I had a look on Amazon at the camera you have. I might have to get one of those your shots come out looking great.

I'm back!
Sorry gents it has been about 6 months since I've had time to visit the board. We made it through another (very mild!) winter.
View from the front deck right now:
Spring has finally arrived at 8000ft The Aspens in the yard are just starting to leaf.
So a while back I posted the installation of my rear wall window.
Remember my plan for windows down the west wall?
A client of mine was bulldozing a house - and it turned out it had two windows that would be absolutely ideal for my plan. So instead of going with 4 windows I went with two windows which leaves room for a 30" cabinet on each end and between them
The windows are about 6 feet long and about 15" high.
My objective was to put them along the west wall right about eye level so they had plenty of clearance above any workbenches and so I could enjoy the view
Last Weekend:

A couple of my jeep buddies came over and we started measuring out and figuring out our plan
...we had to take many breaks and play darts and drink beer.. just to keep the project fun You can see the rear windows in this photo:
We started the frame out. The windows are centered left to right on the wall with the right amount of space between them to mount a 32" cabinet and some space to spare.
Vertically the measurement was very precise and deliberate - they are vertically centered on my eyeball when I'm standing there looking at them
We got the frame out done just as the heavens opened up with biblical levels of rain... which fell non-stop for the next 4 days.
I'm back!

So yesterday (Friday) the weather dried up and I got up the nerve to get the sawzall out and make some big holes:

...then I had to wait for my wife to get home so she could help me actually put the windows in the holes
You can see in that last photo the temporary "insurance beam" I screwed outside (behind my wife's arm) so we couldn't accidentally shove the window through the hole and have it crash down the outside

Which brings us to today.
Now I need to do some flashing, some trim, etc.. then paint the outside trim dark brown to match the garage door & such.
Next I need to redo the wiring and I can actually starting insulating and drywalling

But I would only install them in the garage if you had a plan to enclose them somehow. Id be to worried about dust, sawdust, grinding dust, ect getting all over them.

You don't mind Bitcoin these days (ASIC mining has been killed by the chinese that have free electricity) you mine alt-coins (GPU based) and convert them to bitcoin (or cash). That said bitcoin has been a great investment this past year with the price currently up over $1800!
Ethereum and Zcash are really profitable at the moment (fingers crossed it lasts a while ).. but there are many other coins you can mine.

You can see Ethereum did about $64 million in volume in the last 24 hours (whereas bitcoin did over $400 million).

I'm thinking about using furnace filters but haven't decided yet what would work best.
I'm hoping with enough of them I won't need to run a heater in the winter

Good looking place. Every time I drive up to Silverton for work I remind myself that people spend lots of money to come here and soak up the scenery. As I write this the train is going by my house. I never get tired of that. Planning on insulation before winter this year? What do you think that little bump out was for at the back of the garage?

I actually remember seeing a guy who had a mining server setup in a fancy enclosure. In the winter it would **** blow in cold air from the outside (he lived in Oregon I think so chilly air) and it would go through and heat up by the other end. By the time it exited it would be 60-65 degrees which kept his garage warmed when he wasn't in there. Then during the summer he could reverse the airflow direction and attach an A/C unit where the exit was in the winter to keep them cool. I want to say the whole thing was a three tiered set up. basically empty from the ground up a foot or two, a big enough space for the servers, then another 1-2 foot space.
Wish I could remember where I saw that build at as it was pretty creative.

We are getting 42" of snow today (yes really *twitch*). That said the view out the new windows is delightful
And the extra light is appreciated as the power is out and I just broke the plow... doh!

I rode the 4 wheeler to the quick mart for supplies [emoji23]. The only time I can get away with stupid stuff like this
If you listen you can hear tree branches snapping throughout the forest. This snow is like cement. Poor trees :-(

I love Silverton - I would live in the San Juans in a heart beat if I could figure out a way to move my company there.
Hopefully insulation and drywall will occur this summer - that said I have a bunch of stuff I need to get done that is of higher priority - so fingers crossed.
As for the bump out... I think perhaps someone bought an RV that was too long for the shop and did the extension to fit the RV in the building? My only clue to that is that the main fuse box has the 220 volt feed to the shop labeled "trailer garage". That said, your guess is as good as mine

Sounds pretty neat! I don't think cooling should be an issue... it gets chilly up here every night of the year so as long as I have some airflow through the shop in the summer they should stay cool enough (assuming I don't add a bunch more miners ).
There is a guy in Houston that has a "mining shed" that draws air from the ground below the shed and then blows it out the top... he hasn't gone through a summer yet but I think he's optimistic if he thinks that's going to suffice for a Houston summer (I lived in Dallas for 10 years so I know how hot it gets).

Here's the newest mining rig undergoing testing...

When this weather event is over I'm going to look at building an open frame for it using makerbeam (openbeam) - basically a cheaper version of 8020 (which I've spent far too much money on over the years).

I'd be happy too - I've spent the last decade extensively exploring everywhere in the Colorado mountains you can get a jeep or dirtbike to.
I'm leading a 5 day, 1000 mile offroad jeep tour departing this Thursday in fact

The processors are irrelevant these days. All the ming is gpu based. I have RX580s, RX480s and GTX1080s mining.
I have run carnage and chinaman (assuming you are referring to the ones in Buena Vista) on dirtbikes. I have no desire to take my jeep there... all I would see is $60 grand flashing before my eyes as I flipped it upside down [emoji12]
Rock crawling is not my thing; I would much rather explore 1000 miles of two track

Mining has interested me for a while. Do you think the power usage is overcome by the amount you're able to mine? I've got space in my basement that would work great for this, I just haven't convinced myself it's worth it.

The reason I ask is that I recently bought a new Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and I'd like to do some exploring of my own this summer. I'm not looking for any serious rock crawling, just some fun trails that a stock 4x4 with decent clearance can handle. Thanks!
