What are gel batteries? My old battery charger lost the smoke test after many years and I got a new to me Diehard charger that says it will charge gel batteries. Another charger I looked at said it did not charge gel batteries. I googled gels and don't understand what the difference is as far as charging.

You don't want to quick charge or use higher amperage to charge Gel batteries like you could wet or AGM batteries. I'd look up the battery charging methods to see their suggestions as they can easily differ from each composition used.

Most Gel take 1A max, with nothing I've seen going over 2A. Common store bought chargers might run straight to 4A which can ruin the gel-type battery and they want nothing to do with it.

Article very informative. Don't have either AGM or Gel battery, but its better to be informed. I suspect the new Hustler ZTR I looked at has an AGM battery, but I have no plans to get one and was only curious. Good, though, that the charger I bought will handle all types.

Mazda owners with eLoop capacitor system get a lesson in batteries. 500 bucks for OEM batteries. Some folks use AGM batteries instead, but they are not designed for the system. Seems every manufacturer now has its own battery or light bulb.
