Generac 3000psi pressure washer issue

The pump hasnt hardly been used over the years. Every so often we would use it. I drained the water out i could after I use it.

Every year i change the oil and plug on it even if the oil is ok.

I also pour out the old gas and put in the new gas.


The issue i am having is the pump wont produce no high pressure. Water will squirt out but again no pressure.

Took off the pump. Dont see much. One seal looks like it has damage but ill let you guys judge that if you dont mind.

The valve spring was rusty a little but its ok.

You should always fill the pump with antifreeze or a type of pump conditioner when its gonna sit for a long while. I would always take a turkey baster and fill the pump with antifreeze and let it sit

Air blow or **** up some antifreeze, there are some tricks to using the coolant.

Stupid question, but you know the pump has its own "pump oil" right? First time I changed mine out it looked nothing like it was suppose to.. home centers usually sell "pump saver" for winter storage too.

Take that thingy with the knob apart. Is it sucking air thru soap suction? Something is likely simply stuck. Is that a regulator or soap knob? I am not ubber familiar with little pumps.

Im thinking the unloader valve may be stuck but that seal i have a picture of looks damage but cant really say.

On mine, there is a viewing window and a short plastic dipstick that unscrews on the pump itself.. it's a John Deere 3300 psi unit with a B&S engine. maybe look online and dig up a manual.. id imagine most of the pumps take their own pump oil on gas units, but I am not the foremost expert on pressure washers.

If this is the manual, there was a shipping cap that was supposed to be removed and a dipstick installed... see page 7..

Your john deere washer is a high end unit that has a triplex pump on it with its own self contained oil. The OPs generac does not.

If it's a sealed pump I'd imagine there "should" be oil in it.. or do axial (I think that's what they are called) pumps use no oil?

It uses oil, the OP already stated it had a sticking stating it needs SAE90. Most swashplate style pumps have oil in them.

Which is that? I know there is a little screen filter on the part that connects to your water hose. It had algae on it but i got it clean.

That is the filter in the hose bib connection. Algae is not good. BTW A/R's are very good pumps.

I didnt expect your generac to have oil in it. Most smaller pumps have no lubrication in them at all and you have to have a high end washer with a Cat or Comet pump on it for an internal oil lube.

In 32 years of selling washers, I have only seen 2 styles that don't have oil in the crankcase. many of the cheap ones are sealed and you can't add oil. Yours has oil but adding oil won't fix it.

John Deere has never made a high end unit, commercial duty at best.

Those cheap pumps are not made to be repaired though you may get lucky.

While AR does make some nice pumps, and that may be a better axial pump, it is still a homeowner quality pump.

All the major pump makers, General, Cat, A/R and Comet make cheap pumps as well as good ones and great ones. You cannot go by brand name. In general what makes a pump good is RPM (slower is better), packing system, size of bearings and crank and oil capacity. Slower pumps will be belt drive, have larger bearings and crank and a larger oil capacity. Larger bore is also typical of better pumps.

As far as my preference, I like General pumps. Models I deal with that have proven themselves over time, TS2021 and TSS1021, TSS1511, TS1011. The direct drive I sell for 11 and 13 hp motors is the EZ4040
