Generac 6500EXL Generator - No Output

This 15+ year old gen was stolen, found outside, and returned to the owner. He never got it to work again and sold it cheap. Engine starts and runs (13hp). I've got no output on either 240v leg, the 120v, or 12v DC.

Pulled the generator assembly out. Tested windings. DC winding has a faulty connection to the 12v DC output, which I don't need to use. All other windings are good. The windings were dirty/muddy. I cleaned the entire assembly and have yet to assemble it.

Brushes looked questionable and will be replacing. Wiring has continuity. The power (regulator) board I have no idea how to test. Both rectifiers tested good. There's also an idle control board and a mainboard. I'm thinking it's the power regulator board or mainboard.

The big dilemma here is that this model was discontinued. Briggs bought out the product line (or Generac) and discontinued several replacement parts. The available replacement parts cost more than the generator is worth.

The question is, can I entirely replace the electronics (main board, regulator, etc) with universal generator parts, if there is such a thing? Maybe an entire kit?e38ed86d1ee9222131d059ce4c63d25d.jpg

Short answer is no. Not only do Briggs buy generic, they since sold them and general is one of the hardest to get repair info and parts info for, even current manufacture. We declined being a dealer for them after hearing from other dealers how they are. Models often have parts discontinued right at 7 years. Change brushes and clean slip rings, out it together and look for voltage. Boards are not replaceable. 12vdc supplies idle control, battery charging.

Do a google search on, "flashing the field," as the residual magnetic field may have been lost.

I have read about all that. I figured I could eliminate any possible future complications. I actually found the schematics online. Are you 100% sure there is absolutely no way to redisign the voltage regulation and output control/idlr?
