general shipping prices on large items like toolboxes??

How do most of the tool distributors charge for shipping on bigger stuff like 41" wide toolboxes, etc?

Are things pretty uniform across the industry or all over the place?

I would think that it would depend more on the Carrier's rates and fees than on the companies policy's.

It seems to me that they would charge you the actual carriers charge plus whatever handling fee the deem appropriate.

Keep in mind extra fees....

Liftgate service = $$$

Residential delivery = $$$

R+L Carriers is pretty good.....they have "straight trucks aka box trucks" in most areas & can drop the pallet/crate off in your driveway. Others want you to meet them at their freight terminal & self-load in the parking lot where they drop it via forklift.

Definitely check in on what is included with the delivery charge & who they use. Most "residential deliveries" are curbside only = they sit it on the street next to your mailbox.

One option, is to shake the tree in relationships you have with friends who have commercial businesses.

I had my neighbor ask if he could ship a small mill to my business, to save on the freight. I didn't mind, as long as he would make arrangements to meet the delivery upon arrival.

He did, and he offered to compensate me for the benefit in saving him nearly $650 in extra costs. I just said, buy me a Dr. Pepper and we're good.

Always consider these relationships. It never hurts to ask.

Also price the freight dock-to-dock. That's often quite a bit less than including residential delivery. If you've got a pickup truck, the receiving freight dock will call you when it arrives and have a forklift to set it in your truck.

I ordered a Waterloo toolbox back in 2007 and shipping was free if it went to a business address which it was at the time, the garage for the fleet I was working for at the time, had a fork lift to unload it.

Check out Zoro. Their boxes have free shipping to a residential address and free liftgate service.

Places like strictly toolboxes.com ships for free. Shop before you buy. I think that a large box would cost $150 through fedex freight.
