ok I know I have terrible typing skills but aside from fat fingers and having to look at the keys to type I find when typing a post I look up at what I just typed and many letters are missing. I have to go back an hit the key for the missing letter 2-3 times for it to show up?? When doing any off line work this is not the case so I feel the keyboard (hard wired one) is working fine? is it just me? :dunno:

Doesn't happen to me. Generally speaking, anything you type into a text field in your browser stays at your machine until you hit submit (there are exceptions to this, but in this context we can ignore them) which suggests that if there is a problem, it is probably in your browser. First thing to do would be try a different browser to see if that helps.

What browser?
What internet connection and speed?

I suspect the keyboard, (or you! :lol_hitti) as typically this is the only thing that can cause this.

Will get a new keyboard but as mentioned with word document or any other off line program all the letters at least show up. Ok maybe not in the right order!!

(the above reply had about 6 letters missing, and needed to be revised and not the same letter. very frustrating...)

I wonder if you might have some application working in the background (maybe getting updates). Sometimes that has happened to me using a wired keyboard.

Alternatively, you might want to check the keyboard properties under the Control Panel while the application is running. Maybe you can make some adjustments there. I'm most familiar with WinXP, but in Win7 you follow: Control Panel>Ease of access>Make the keyboard easier to use>keyboard settings

Alternatively you could use Search under the Start menu and search for "keyboard settings" to find where you adjust your keyboard.

I learned "touch typing" back in high school on an old IBM Selectric. The "hunt and peck" method can be pretty frustrating. You must have great patience.

Denis,

I am a good look down typer just not able to look up and stay as fast. Still Frustrating.

You may be onto something with the program running in the background. I stream radio as I am in a metal building with poor reception. When I shut that off, this response for example, Who ha I am a 300 word a minute typer again! ( Ok full disclosure all the letters were here but a few miscues still)

Thanks for all the responses!

Free and easy: install the latest Firefox and see if that works better. I don't use IE, and 8 is wicked old (we are at 11 now.)

Firefox is an easy install, give it a try and report back if the same problems happen.

It happens when your keyboard is getting bad (on a laptop...never had it happen with a regular keyboard). It's probably easier to see if you can type by touch rather than looking at the keys. I get pretzel salt in there sometimes and you gotta work it out eventually when it's smashed into dust it works okay.

But keyboards can still wear out over time but usually the keys will start falling off so you'll know.

Stuff running in the background (online radio station, etc) causes delays in what appears on the screen when you type, sometimes the characters get lost. You stop, wait, and the screen finally catches up, but sometimes with missing characters.

If it works OK in Word, open word and type your reply there, then copy and past into the browser reply box. You are assured of getting a good spell checker, punctuation, and grammar check that way too.

Friend of mine found a typing program online to sharpen his skills. Worked well. Once learned he maintained his skills without practice.

When all other reasons fail, blame the software... :lol_hitti

I know precisely what he's talking about.

His symptoms do sound software related, and I've encountered similar issues on occasion. If I recall correctly, it does seem to happen when using Vbulletin.

It could also be related to ads in another tab. I know my anime video sites tend to slow things down if left to rot in another tab or window.

I don't know. I've never bothered to diagnose the issue. As soon as I swap back to programs like Wordperfect, however, everything types smooth as silk.

I know damned well my keyboards aren't to blame. Right now I'm using a Ducky Shine 3 with Cherry MX Brown switches and no aftermarket drivers.

If I hop to another machine, I'll be typing on a Corsair K90 with MX Reds. Another machine is running a Logitech G510.

Trust me. It ain't the keyboard.

This may or may not be related.

OP mentions that the issue does not happen on a wired keyboard. Same CPU otherwise?

On laptops, there is a touch pad right where the thumbs like to hover. And occasionally touch, or get close enough that the touch pad picks up the signal and moves the cursor to where ever you left it and the missing letters end up there.

"End up there", could be elsewhere in the text, or if the touch pad (as opposed to the keyboard) cursor was left outside a text area, the AWOL typed text ends up in the ethos of nothingness.

If your situation of concern does not involve a touch pad, then the problem is most certainly gremlins with in the computer that are out to get you.

Dave, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. This happens to me all the time (both).

Oops/Edit: My wife's computer has an older MS wireless keyboard and mouse (no touch pad). First, if there is a lot of junk (books, papers, pens, dust, microns) between the keyboard and the sender-thingy (tech-talk), it doesn't work and text can be lost. B, if the batteries are low. Yep, this is a not so tech tech device. Both require those antiquated products called AA batteries.
