Generator 12vdc output question

Here's one that I couldn't find anything on.

Regardless of the size, why does it seem like all of the generators I have ever seen only have a 12vdc 8.3 amp output? Why not more or less current.

Just curious. I figured here would be a good place to post, to start...

My google-fu (as it's been said) is not very strong today

because thats 100 watts, probably a standard little transformer they use on all the generators.

I always assumed that it was beacuse that was a resonable amount of amps to charge a 12v car battery.

Not if the battery is low tho. Mine always tripped the breaker when I tried that. Had to by a battery charger and run it off the 120V.

Do they use a transformer? I always thought they had seperate windings in the generator head for the 12v part. :confused:

As for why they're all the same...it seems like most generators these days are simply a copy of somebody else's generator...
