Generator Question?

I want to plan for the event where I need to run my small 30A camper from a 5500 Watt generator. There are two duplex outlets on the genset and each one comes from a different "winding" on the generator. The owner's manual says they are capable of 2400W each. Additionally, there an L14-30R four prong receptacle that can provide 120/240V. The owner's manual says that can provide 2750W at 120V or 5500 at 240V. I bought an adapter that provides the TT30R for plugging in my camper to the L14-30R since it looks like the higher rating (2750 vs 2400) would be desirable. GETTING TO THE QUESTION _ drumroll...Â…..Is there a practical way to tell which winding is not being picked up by the adapter plugged into L14-30R so that I can use the 120V receptacle on the other winding? I do not want to trip the breaker to find out I've overloaded one side of the genset. I've requested info from the manufacturer of the adapter, but still need to check the 120V outlets to be sure I'm using the one NOT being used by the camper. Thanks for your input.

I would say a voltage check of the outlets while there is a load would be a good way.

using a multimeter, connect one side to the hot of the TT30 and then into each outlet hot, one will read 0 and one will read approx 240. The 240 volt will be the opposite winding.

Will your motorhome accept a 220 input? That might be a good solution to your problems.
