generator transfer panel question

i have a 6 circuit transfer panel. the kind where you bring the wire off the fuse/breaker, connect to a wire from the panel and then connect a wire from the panel back to the fuse/breaker. The issue i am unsure about is connecting the wire to the fuse panel. i have an old school fuse panel, where the wire is wrapped around a screw and the screw tightened down, like wiring an outlet. the problem is the generator panel uses stranded copper wire. twisting the wire and putting it around the screw just doesn’t seem secure enough for an important connection like this. What would be the proper and safe way to terminate stranded wire to a screw connection? Are crimp on forks a possibility? wasn’t sure if crimp forks were a safe solution? I haven’t ever run into this, and want to make sure i do it correctly and safely. any thoughts? thanks!!!
