Recenyly picked up a mlitary mep 003a generator that would not make power. An electrical enginer friend and I tinkered with it and without changing any parts or finding any obvious problems got it working. Yesterday, it successfully lit my complete garage with 25 fluorescant lights and a 1000 watt spot light. When we added a heavier load (air compressor 6 HP 220 volt), we are now drawing total of about 25 % power, the generator revved up, did not stall but stopped making power. Since then it will not generate power. We've checked the set over including resistance and voltage readings but nothing obvious. Where do you suggest I look to spot the problem.

Just do whatever magic sorcery you did the first time!

Are there circuit breakers or fuses on it?

Also go to Steelsoldiers.com and visit their Auxiliary equipment forum. The MEP-002/003's are easy to damage if RPMs drop below rated speed as this damages the regulator.
