I think I already know the answer to this question but I have a 5500w generator that I'm back feeding our home with due to some crazy idk how billing from our (now under investigation from my understanding) and said we need to pay 7k or no power. Well I've got an 80yo mother I'm tryin to take care of and 7k is not in any way reachable. My other problem is I'm going thru gas like no other! I've got a splitter (came with generator) for the 240 twist and lock with two 10 gauge cords back feeding the house thru the splitter, one of which has a 30 amp male plug to a regular 15 amp plug into one outlet, and the other cord has the factory Ridgid male on one end and a "heavy duty" 15 amp male on one the other plugged into a different outlet (circuit) into ano myther.consumptionsue is that I am just flying through the gas. My question is how can I lower my gas consumption? If I unplug both cords and put the 4 prong twist and lock male on one end and the 3 prong appliance (dryer) plug on the other end would running 240 to the house be more beneficial in the consumption of fuel versus the two 120 cords I've got running right now? And yes my main is throwed (stays throwed cause we're not coming up with 7k no time soon) PLEASE lmk wut y'all think or know this gas price and amount being used at this rate a little nibble could've been taken out of this ridiculous bill.

your generator under a given load will use the same fuel, regardless of cordage used

Running a house off a gas generator is way more expensive than power from the utility. It's better to fix the problem with the utility.

There are organizations that can help you negotiate with the utility or can help out with money for the bills. Here's some below. There's probably local or state ones too.

What you are doing is dangerous and wrong. You need to stop back feeding your moms house that way.

Back feeding thru a 240 plug isn't any better. If I followed your 1st post correctly you already are. And your just damn lucky that you picked the correct circuits that land on seperate buss bars in your panel.

No matter what, you will consume lots of fuel with a generator, even if you are not putting a load on it. Then whatever your load your applying will consume more fuel regardless of which hokey way you hook it up.

Thank you! N yeah we've reached out to heap, poco, St. Vincent De Paul and tried to get the electric company to work with us but no luck. Tho we haven't yet went to legislation yet, we're new to this position and have just been told I can't h

Well may be wrong but it's all we got right now and I told the necessary precautions to assure was done correctly and with care with what we had to work with. We appreciate the concern n thank you for ur feed back..(no punt intended)
