Generic/ eBay Dewalt 18v Batteries....??

Any experiences with the higher capacity generic 18v batteries for Dewalt cordless tools? They're about half the price of the genuine Dewalts which makes them attractive BUT I'm not sure about the quality and longevity. Any experiences with them?

They would work but they are not the same inside they don't have the protection or CPU like the original and the batteries are cheaper quality cells they won't last as long and housing is cheaper plastic but they work and last but not as good as a real dewault. I'd go original as places like home depot have bogo on them this time of year which they are right now or it might be Sears but that's the way to go unless the sale ends and your in a bind they will get the job done. I thought about getting the makita versions but got a Hilti set instead. I have gotten the generic nicad before and they work okay but there is a huge weight difference I took the guts out of new battery and put them in original even. Do whatever you gotta do it's your money just don't expect Dewault quality .goodluck

I've bought a couple off Amazon back a few months ago they have worked well thus far.

I'd go with Amazon just in case there was a problem. Returns will be much easier. On the other hand, you can search eBay and Amazon Warehouse and find real Dewalt batteries for pretty good prices. I bought a 20v 3ah battery for like $30 a few months ago.

There are reputable places that rebuild NiCd's at a decent price with quality cells. I have also used the Tenergy 2200mah Ni Cd sub C's from Battery Junction to rebuild smaller packs. I see no reason to mess with lower quality cases or cells. If you control your rebuild you know what you have. I have seen welded up NiCd packs for popular batteries ready to drop in. I don't know if there is anything for lithium yet

Im still fully committed to the dewalt 18v line. I had one off brand battery and it worked fine but id just buy OEM. You can still find new XRP batteries for good prices on ebay.

I bought the 20v conversion for 35 bucks and 2 volt batteries. Money well spent

Might also want to seriously consider spending a bit more and investing in the Dewalt 20v Battery Adapter Kit for 18-Volt Tools if not just because your tools will run stronger / longer and not have the NiCd 'memory effect', but also as an investment towards if/when you do step up to Dewalt 20v tools if you haven't already.

The kit goes for $120 right now and includes two 20v batteries and charger and adapter for 18v tools, or if you already have some 20v tools w/ batteries you can just buy the Dewalt 20v to 18v adapter for $37 or thereabouts.

I pulled the trigger and went for 2 18v xrp batteries. I currently have 4 18v (9098/9099) battery packs in good working order. I only have 3 cordless tools - drill, reciprocating saw, and circular saw.I want to stay with the 18v units for now but it's good to know that I can make the jump to 20v using their adapter. I'm not a pro but will be doing some large projects on my home (built in 1840). Do you think it's worth my while to pick up another charger? They're pretty cheap (9226) on eBay......?

I bought a generic no name DeWalt 12V off ebay for $15 for my DeWalt lantern. Seems to work fine. No problems in a year of using it. But that's just for a lantern.

I upgraded my 18v nicads to the 18v lithiums. Much better! It's just odd that when they get low they just stop rather than getting weaker.

I bought some a couple years ago. They work fine, haven't been able to tell a difference except they won't work in all my chargers.
